Pregnancy after Lletz

I am currently 6+4 and panicking over anything and everything (I'm not usually like this). In September 2020, I was treated for CIN3 by a Lletz procedure. I had (from what I gather) quite a large part of my cervix taken away. Has anyone else had this procedure and managed to carry a healthy baby?

TIA

Hi @Mamaux. Congratulations on your pregnancy. I had that and had a healthy baby and pregnancy. They will probably measure your cervix - I think there’s a measurement they want it to be - I can’t remember but mine seemed to measure fine so wasn’t mentioned again. Hope all goes well

Thank you for replying. You know what it is like;start looking at Google and all I see is stories of late miscarriage and premature birth. I'll make sure I mention it to my midwife x

Aw google can be awful can’t it Sad but hopefully all ok. Yes just make sure and tell them. It was actually something they asked specifically as mine was a few years back and to be honest I wouldn’t have thought about it but when they then measured the cervix I was glad i didn’t forget to mention. Goodluck with your pregnancy - hopefully it all goes smoothly and you can enjoy it x

You tell the midwife at your booking appointment and you'll be referred to the obstetrician. They will look at records to see how much length was taken off during lletz and decide whether to scan your cervix (length). I had CIN3, this happened to me. I had a cervix scan and the length was fine. Normally 1 lletz doesn't cause a problem. If your cervix is short, they sometimes put a stitch in it. If it's normal, you'll be discharged back to midwives

I'm 26w4d and had a cervical length scan at just over 20 weeks because of the same thing. All was fine and length normal. I got discharged back to midwife care and won't be followed it.

So far so good! Also, the scan took minutes and was totally painless. Worth having just to be sure but I wouldn't worry about anything until they tell you that you have something to worry about. Most women are absolutely fine and it's a precaution to pick up the few who sadly are not and need some extra care.

Good luck!

Yes I had very small/ premature twins then treatment for cin 3 and then carried a 10lb baby to two weeks over due. It was all fine but i was a little but worried due to my previous very prem babies

I have had 3 Lletz procedures over the years and had a baby in 2017. I was monitored for cervical length every 2 weeks until I was passed the 26 week mark. If cervix had looked like it was shortening they will put a stitch in.

The other aspect that I hadn't thought about was scar tissue on the cervix. When I delivered my baby I had quite a severe cervical tear as my cervix was kind of welded shut in a place from scar tissue from the lletz. It was dealt with and stitched up and no lasting problems.

I’ve had 3 since, they should do a cervical length scan at 20 weeks, they forgot to do mine but didn’t seem concerned at all. Congratulations!

boymum88 · 23/06/2021 20:42

They should offer a cervical scan at 16 weeks and another a few weeks later. Anything below 2.5cm is when a stitch would be advised. They would also check the cervix was not funnelling.

Callmecordelia · 23/06/2021 20:48

Yes, I had a huge portion of my cervix removed. I told my midwife at booking in I'd had a lletz, but no one was worried until they looked at the notes and found out it was a lot of cervix. I had no idea, I hadn't been told. By that time I was into my second trimester. I had a panicked scan, but it turned out my cervix had regrown and I didn't have to have a cervical stitch. DS is five now, and it was all OK.

I had a Lletz in 2009, told my midwife about it at my first appointment but my area don't refer you to a consultant unless you've had 2 or more. Almost 29 weeks now and all ok so far.
