How much are you napping?

I'm almost 28 weeks and wondering if my tiredness level can be normal. With DC1, I was waking up early, commuting and doing full days at work at this stage with no problem.

This time I feel like sleeping all day! Slept 11pm to 7.30am last night and have so far had 3 micronaps during the day (about 20 minutes each). If I lie down and close my eyes I'm gone!

I do have a toddler this time and had some disturbed nights and early starts in the last couple of weeks so perhaps have a bit of a sleep debt this way, but it still seems excessive.

What's your experience?

I can't give you any comparison as I'm pregnant with my first child but I wonder if it might just be worth a check up at the GPs? I assume you might have a blood test this week anyway. There's a chance you might be anemic or just the joys of going into the third trimester and having a tolder in tow!

ApplesandBananas21 · 22/06/2021 17:24

I didn't feel like that until the last two weeks because I turned nocturnal!
Worth getting your bloods done

Chelyanne · 22/06/2021 17:28

A couple of naps a day and rubbish nights sleep at 32wk. I've felt worse since the consultants put me on blood thinners at 28wk but I told them and they will not do my bloods again until 36wk. I'm used to running on little sleep as mum to 5, would love a good 6 hours undisturbed sleep rather than broken sleep.

Thank you, it's making me think it might not be normal then. The thing is that at the same time I actually have good levels of energy and feel physically fine. I'm not yawning all day and if we are busy I can manage without a nap, but it is weird that I fall asleep if I close my eyes for more than 5 seconds!

I was wondering if it was partly a bit of laziness/boredom with working from home. I have a midwife appointment on Monday so will bring it up and see what she says.

I was napping like this at around 28 weeks and it turned out i was anemic, been on iron tablets since and am now 36 weeks and feeling much more awake definitely worth asking your midwife about Smile

Muststopeating · 22/06/2021 19:21

Normal here. I am completely wiped all the time! I think there were a few weeks in the middle where it was a bit better (i.e. I couldn't get back to sleep in the morning if DH got up with the kids). Now I could easily nap 3 times a day, the thing that stops me is the heartburn. Can't lie down! (Not that being upright makes it much better). I'm 36 weeks with number 3 and am the same whether I have an interrupted sleep or not.

On the bright side I'm so knackered that I haven't had the wake up at 4am wide awake very often.

(My routine bloods were down vs booking and very very border line but no additional iron prescribed).

Unfortunately not enough! I could nap daily but I don’t get the chance to, I’m always most tired between 1-3pm x

Girlmama3 · 22/06/2021 21:36

I’m a sahm this time (no 4) with a toddler at home. I get bored but also very tired at random times. I’ve perfected the power nap but only have one every other day maybe.

Toddler still comes into our bed at around 2am so I wake up tired! I’m 20 weeks.

I’d get your bloods done and maybe try floradix. It tastes awful but is full of vitamins and good for boosting energy x

IeatPotNoodles · 22/06/2021 21:37

No naps SadI'm 31 weeks and still working, but very jealous of your naps!!

Amichelle84 · 22/06/2021 21:40

Worth mentioning it and getting bloods done. I'm pregnant with 2nd and am so tired but also have insomnia which is great 👍 want to sleep all day and stay awake all night so work is fun...

It does turn out I have very low iron which explains a lot, so worth checking.

Kirky658 · 23/06/2021 17:48

@pivot83 i am 28 weeks today and constantly feel like I need a nap! Always exhausted, having about 2 naps a day 30 mins each. Had my bloods done today so I guess I'll find out if I'm low on iron etc.

sarah13xx · 23/06/2021 17:58

I’m not napping, only time I did was in the first trimester when it was a lockdown, but I do fall asleep really easily every night and I’m working from home and have very flexible hours (in that no one ever checks what I’m doing - think they’re just thinking leave the pregnant girl alone😂) but I’ve been having really long lies every morning. Sometimes I even get up for breakfast then go back to sleep for hours. Don’t even feel guilty though since I won’t be able to shortly 🙈

Luckyelephant1 · 23/06/2021 18:04

I'm 37 weeks and need an hours afternoon nap around 3.30ish most days, not sleeping particularly well during the night though due to discomfort and toilet trips. Luckily I'm on maternity leave and have no toddlers to look after!

Pivot83 · 23/06/2021 20:59

@kirky658 maybe it is a 28 week thing then! Or have you felt like this throughout? I I hadn't needed to nap since the first trimester.

I'm also really thirsty and have a dry mouth so now I'm paranoid that it's gestational diabetes... but I regularly get anxious about one thing or another!

@sarah13xx yes I also go back to sleep after breakfast sometimes if my toddler had me up early! It's the best!

@pivot83 I've honestly felt exhausted since about 24 weeks! I'm WFH and get to about 4pm then I feel like I can't function without a snooze lol. 6 weeks left at work, can't wait to finish up!

Pivot83 · 23/06/2021 22:52

Urgh sorry to hear @Kirky658, I've I've occasionally fallen asleep sat at my desk it's crazy! 8 more weeks for me I think, seems like such a long time....
