Low platelets

I just found out today I've got low platelets after a blood test a few days ago. I'm currently 32+5 days. The women who told me said not to worry and was lovely but was just a receptionist and couldn't tell me any more than it was low and they've made me an appointment for almost 5 weeks time? I've tried phoning but can't get through for more info. Just wondering if anyone can give me any more info on this what it means can it change etc? What should I be doing? 5 weeks seems forever away

There's quite a bit of info online to keep you busy whilst you're waiting: www.google.com/search?q=low+platelets+pregnancy+nhs&oq=low+platelets+nhs+pr&aqs=chrome.1.69i57j0i22i30j0i390l3.6749j0j4&client=ms-android-oneplus&sourceid=chrome-mobile&ie=UTF-8

It's important to note that low platelets is a range. Without discussing your exact results with a medical professional it'll be impossible to advise on your exact circumstances.

I'd try not to worry too much though, if they believe it's safe to wait 5 weeks (having seen your results) then that implies you're not high risk.

I would recommend you keep trying to get through to your community midwives to discuss your results and get some peace of mind though.

Thankyou,
Finally got through, she said they normally re test at 36 weeks and I’ll be 37 so not too late and told me there’s nothing I can do now it’s more of needing a plan for labour if it doesn’t change. Thanks again (:

That's good news ☺️

Are you taking a pre natal multivitamin at the moment? I know the midwife said you don't need treatment or to do anything right now but if I was in your situation I'd definitely start one if I wasn't already on one.

Good luck with everything 🤞 not long now!

Hi OP, I had low platelets in my last pregnancy but was told not to worry as there was nothing I could do about it - it was info that would be needed for delivery as it means a possibility of higher blood loss and also they told me that I would probably not be able to have an epidural because of it.
