Really embarrassing here but I'm 38+2 and I've just notice my whole anus it purple with 4/5 lumps on? Obviously hameroids! Not sure how I've got this as I haven't strained at all etc! Guessing it's just the pressure? Need some advice here? What do I do? Do I wait to get these treated until after birth or? And how are they treated? Is testament effective?😩help!!!

This thread is a few years old. If you've found this page in search of treatments and advice managing haemorrhoids during pregnancy from fellow Mumsnet users, you might find our guide to piles in pregnancy useful. Hope this helps! MNHQ 💐

Don’t know but in your painful boat too 🙈 I’ve just really upped the fibre to try and help and it has been a lot better. I haven’t even taken a paracetamol while pregnant so I’m adamant I’m not taking anything for it or putting anything on them just now. I’ll use the suppositories after birth then if I don’t get anywhere might need to get them properly treated

@sarah13xx same here! Just scared of how bad they'll get during birth?!😳😂c

Ahh I got them just before I gave birth and it is from the pressure. The doctor told me the cure is childbirth 😬. To be honest, I didn't notice mine at all in labour. However, I gave birth 9 months ago and they've only got worse in that time, so I've been referred to have them banded this week.

Shmerlock · 22/06/2021 09:19

@ggggrace unfortunately, I know all too well the pain of bloody piles!! They are the WORST! I thought I'd escaped them, but as soon as I hit my third trimester my IBS flared up and I managed to get a couple of new friends downstairs 🤣🙈. I've been using Germaloids ointment on mine, it does the job of numbing them slightly as it's antiseptic and has shrunk them somewhat but I think banding will be the only way to completely get rid. Like you, I'm also terrified of what state they'll be in after childbirth!! Think it's all part and parcel of the process unfortunately!! Xx

Ouch! Had these few weeks back and was so painful.
I used a little sudocrem and iced them a little.

Lola19 · 22/06/2021 21:57

Me too!! I’m 33 weeks and have been constipated but have been soooo careful not to strain and have been taking lactulose which has helped massively. However noticed I felt uncomfortable down there and checked with a mirror I was shocked!!! Do you think Anusol would be ok to use?? I googled and got mixed results

ggggrace · 22/06/2021 22:42

@Lola19 I know! I haven't googled anything to be honest so I'm honestly not sure? I don't think there's any point trying to anything until after birth is there?😂🤷🏻‍♀️just scared what it's going to be like after birth😳😂

If they bother you when you poo you could try some lactulose to keep things soft (and I would definitely recommend that postpartum). It is likely that they will be very big and uncomfortable after birth but they will settle again. A thrombosed haemorrhoid is a very painful thing. Anusol HC suppositories are ver my good - ask your GP.

BigfatJ · 23/06/2021 10:55

@Lola19 I was given Anusol for my first pregnancy and it helped prevent them bleeding but did sweet fa to shrink them/make them hurt less Sad

Have you spoken to your doctor and been prescribed anything? A good treatment is Uniroids but you can only use it for a week because it’s a hydrocortisone cream. So if they’re severe and you’re not on top of the constipation, it’s not a long term solution

MGee123 · 23/06/2021 12:00

Struggling here too at 33 weeks. Im following all the advice on the NHS website and using anusol multiple times a day which I think is helping a bit. Luckily mine haven't been too painful so far but they don't look great!! Similarly anxious about how bad they will get post-birth!! Im not constipated, am keeping active, don't spend too much time sitting, balanced diet etc etc. Not sure what more I can do! Midwife said they would only intervene if they are causing lots of issues ie pain so think it's a case of putting up with them for now! Ah the joys of pregnancy!

Sweetpea12 · 23/06/2021 14:34

I was hoping someone would mention this on this forum as I’m 36 weeks and have the same problem. I’ve been using a cream I got and I am convinced they shrink briefly but then I feel like they are just back again as big the next day Hmm the joys of being pregnant I’m guessing. Would the general advice be to just see the GP it they don’t go away after the birth?

Have you tried Epsom salts in a sitz bath? Think this was suggested on a recent thread on the same topic. I bought a folding sitz bath (amazon) and its brilliant!
