CVS results after 6.3mm NT

Hello to you all.

I had a CVS procedure done last week after babies NT levels came back at 6.3mm. I’ve just had a phone call from the midwife today saying that the results came back clear for everything but they found small traces for Down Syndrome but they can’t conclusively say that baby has DS. Been told that they will be able to tell me for sure in next 9 days. My head right now is all over the place as was hoping for the best, but am now in an emotional state again because I don’t know what this may mean. Does having a small trace for DS mean that it’s pretty conclusive that baby has DS. I’m new to this site and any support or advice would mean a lot. Thank you.

Hi- I don’t have direct experience but I can tell you what the consultant told me before I had a CVS. Your placenta can contain cells that are different to the baby and this is called mosaicism. The way they explained it to me was that in 1-2% of instances, the placenta has abnormal cells but the baby doesn’t. So the 3 day result cannot be deemed conclusive and you have to wait for the full microarray. It seems a weird way to phrase it “small traces” but this could be what they’re talking about. Sorry that you’re going through this but 1-2% seemed like quite a high % to me so hopefully you’re within that %.

Sorry not to be more helpful. Hoping for the best for you
