How to find out which vaccine you will get

I have my appointment on Friday after days of tears and anxiety trying to make that decision.

However (and for no valid reason at all) i have decided to only go ahead with Pfizer and getting worried I will be offered Moderna.

Is there away to find out which it will be?

I just called my vaccine centre which happened to be a pharmacy in advance and they told me over the phone. I had mine last weekend and apart from a sore arm and a bit of tiredness which lasted a day I had no other side effects 🙂

Mine was the Moderna one which the vaccine administerer assured me was safe for me to have at 17 weeks pregnant. Although I understand it’s a hard decision and if you would only feel comfortable with Pfizer then that’s 100% your choice!

Thank you so much @spagino21 for the info and being understanding ! I can't find a phone number for my center, I wonder if I should ask the GP but she makes me feel like I waste her time at the best of times so not sure she'd appreciate it!!

If it's Moderna I'll probably still go for it as I'm 28 weeks and dont want to hang around too long waiting for another appointment but at least I'll have a few days to get psychologically ready! It's mostly because I'm from another country and only Pfizer is given in pregnancy there so knowing I'm getting the same as my friends and family there would make me feel somehow safer.

Good to know you had few side effects too!

Not sure your GP will know, unless it's actually at the GP surgery you're having it? Even then they might not know.
Either way, if you're under 40 or pregnant, and in the UK it will be Pfizer or Moderna. So since you're happy to have either of these then there won't be a problem. You won't be offered AZ anyway.
Mine was last week - very pleased to be able to get it done at last!

@Braxtonlife have you tried the number for the NHS vaccine booking people? I think it’s 119. They might be able to tell you which vaccine your centre is offering. Also maybe have a chat with your midwife about it if your GP is unhelpful? I made sure to tell mine when I was having it just in case she had any concerns but she fully supported my decision 🙂

I went to a large vaccine centre on Saturday and because most people are under 30 now who are getting the first vaccine they only had Phizer. I'm 29 wks and only side effect I had was slight sore arm and quite tired, that could just be pregnancy though Smile

My local vaccine centre only had AZ and Pfizer. Moderna is a bit less common. They were giving Pfizer to anyone booked for a first vaccine. The people there for a second dose of the AZ vaccine were given seats in a separate section.

Thanks! I tried 119 over the weekend but they said they have no visibility over which centers offer what.

Your post prompted me to look harder for a phone number for the vaccination center and I did find one but it's a mobile number and noone is responding. I then however noticed a small print on their information page to say they currently offer AZ and Pfizer, so feeling happy that it's likely to be Pfizer unless that information is very old and not been updated.

I spoke to my midwife the week before who said she "could't recommend the vaccine" which had initially put me off even more, but I guess what she meant is that it had to be my decision.

I recently went to the vaccine centre and had moderna.

I was assured it was very similar to phizer and so far no side effects Smile

First dose for U40s must not be given as Astra unless v good reason

gamerchick · 21/06/2021 18:28

Don't pfizer and moderna work the same way?

Man the dudes at pfizer must be raking it in after all the shit stirring that's gone on ffs.
