To sweep or not to sweep

Hey!

I had a sweep on Thursday and the midwife was very positive about how it was all looking. She couldn’t get me
a second sweep until next Saturday (though added she would be surprised if I was still pregnant then anyway). I am pretty sure I lost some of my mucus plug last night too but no other symptoms at this point.

We agreed to book an induction on Thursday evening as I don’t want to wait until after 41 weeks to book the induction (which could be at 42 weeks given how busy they are). She said to call up on Monday and see if I can get a second sweep in as appointments might become free. This could avoid the induction.

I’m Wondering if there is any point? Given sweeps can take 48 hrs to work surely I wouldn’t bother any later than Tuesday to have it done given the induction is on Thursday?

Anyone had any experience and can advise if I should push for a second sweep on Monday or Tuesday?

Thank you!!!

Personally I would try and avoid another induction by any means necessary so if that meant a sweep on Mon/Tues I’d go for it if possible.

Id give the sweep a try if it's not too much hassle! Might also help induction along if it comes to that. Good luck x

My second sweep worked within about 18h. I was advised as though it is unpleasant, it’s nicer than induction and you lose nothing by trying. Good luck!

Agree. With my DTs I had a sweep before they put the pessary in for my induction.

No idea if it helped but I gave birth 6h later and basically went from 0-100 in 10 minutes when I did start, so fast the MW missed it and I gave birth alone!

My sweep took about an hour to work. I was told there would be some "cramping" which started when I got home, then the cramping got intense and regular and DS was here within 24h

Go for the second sweep definitely, for my last I had 3 sweeps over about 10 days and was delivered from start to finish in about 2 hrs!

I went in for a scan on Thursday afternoon and ended up being booked in for an induction for the Tuesday after, they asked if they could give me a sweep as it would make me more favourable for induction so I agreed even though I wasn’t keen (had 2 sweeps with dd1 and still went 11 days overdue!) lost my mucus plug Friday night and my waters broke Sunday afternoon. Ended up being induced on the Monday instead as my contractions didn’t start but from pessary to baby was 5.5hours so the sweep def started things off that time.

Sweeps as much as possible in preference to induction, imo.

Thank you!!! Let’s hope they can get me in for a second, or even better we see some more progress over next few days 🤞🏻
