Week 6 - is it normal to feel this exhausted?

Hi all.

This is my first pregnancy so I didn’t really know what to expect. I’ve had nausea since about week 3 (I’ve always been very sensitive of hormone changes, often get sick during ovulation week and AF so I’m not surprised that it kicked in that early for me).

Now I’m in week 6 and I am genuinely exhausted all the time. I’m a very active person normally (run a lot, usually around half marathon distance each weekend) and this sudden dip in energy just feels so wrong for me. For the past few days I’ve had to nap during the day, sometimes multiple times to avoid having to go to bed at 6 😂

Is this normal this early? Should I be worried? Or should I embrace my new status as nap queen of the household?

I’m week 11 now and knackered as well! I usually run at least 3x a week, 10k + a run and I just can’t, I’ve had to have naps some days and am going to bed super early when I’d usually be in bed after midnight. I tried to go for a run last week and only made it to 3.5k - just felt breathless and sick so had to walk the rest. Some days I feel like my legs aren’t mine! I am very much hoping that it gets better in 2nd trimester. The only thing I have found is that if I make myself go for a walk or a bike ride (which is more doable than running but still hard) I do feel marginally better afterwards! Currently at work and desperately want to go home and have a nap… it is all I can think about (other than food Grin )

It's normal. I've never felt tiredness like I did during my pregnancies. Thanks for you!

BikeRunSki · 19/06/2021 14:54

Normal!!

HDready · 19/06/2021 15:00

Completely normal - a bone aching tiredness I had never experienced before!

MissSmiley · 19/06/2021 15:08

With my first I used to go to bed at 6pm and sleep for 12 hours in the first few weeks, and my appetite was crazy, two full meals a day as opposed to not really having a great appetite before, the tiredness gets better

Confusedaboutlots · 19/06/2021 15:09

i found the first trimester really tiring - think it’s normal as your body is doing so much of the work now. found the 2nd trimester absolutely fine and 3rd was tough simply because of the additional weight being carried

Thanks all. Your replies are reassuring to read! I was just feeling a bit pathetic and like maybe I was doing something wrong (not eating right or something). Think I probably just need to come to terms with a significant reduction in output over the coming months.

And in the coming years!! Good luck and congrats x

Just had a baby a couple of weeks ago. Yes it’s normal! I was shattered at that point. Also from about week 36 too. It gets better in the middle! I’m shattered again now … but it’s all so worth it! Congratulations op. Flowers

It's how I realised I was pregnant with my 2nd!

I collapsed on the sofa one evening and thought "I haven't felt tired like this since I was pregna..... Oh!"

AnnaSW1 · 19/06/2021 15:50

Its normal. You're making a person!

VixFromThe6ix · 19/06/2021 15:59

I'm week 7 and exhausted from the moment I wake up!! Could take 3 naps a day and still go to bed at 10pm. I've been home for the last two weeks due to exhaustion, bloating and nausea.
Doctor says it's normal and should lighten up by week 10.
Can't wait for week 10 😂😂 wanna feel like a person again and enjoy my summer.

glasspaw · 19/06/2021 17:27

@VixFromThe6ix bring on week 10 for both of us! 🤣

Sorry to hear you’ve been so poorly recently. Hope it improves soon :)

@LittleTiger007 congrats on your new arrival!

@TheresNothingIWantMore having experienced the past few days, I can totally see how that could be a reliable pregnancy indicator. I’ve never felt anything like it.

I used to come in from work, go upstairs to get dressed, and Dp would come up a couple of hours later, find me asleep and say “oh, takeaway tonight then?!” It gets better in the middle!

First trimester tiredness sucks.

Last year was the first year that I have never decorated for Christmas 🙈

linerforlife · 19/06/2021 18:49

So normal!! You should feel better in a few weeks. Then you'll be tired again in the third trimester.
