Hi there,

Just wondering if I should have heard anything by now about midwife appointments, as it was 10 weeks ago in March I had my last one? Everyone keeps asking me what position the baby’s in and I’m like “I don’t know I haven’t been to see my midwife in over two months?” I love in Scotland as well so not sure if it’s different for England. Also my apps are saying things like “you’ll have lots of upcoming midwife appointments in your third trimester?”
Is this normal? Thanks

I had one at 20 weeks, 28 weeks and again at 32 weeks... I'm sure you should of had more regular appointments. The midwife normally measures your bump and checks your urine/BP

Has anyone done a birth plan with you?

I'm not in Scotland, I'm in England but surely it can't be much different

You should be being seen every 2 weeks now. Ring your midwife and get booked in

Ragoo · 19/06/2021 11:04

I should add my 32 week one is on Tuesday, I know I'll have at least another 2 after that before my baby arrives.

OP I would definetly contact your midwife or Gp surgery

No I’ve not had a birth plan either which is another thing people keep asking me and mentioning? I think I’ll give them a phone. Ive only had one check up 2 weeks after my 20 week scan where she measured me etc

I'm in Scotland and just checked my midwife appointment list. So I've got them at 10weeks, 16 weeks, 24 weeks, 28 weeks, 34 weeks, 38 weeks and 40 weeks. Also it says first time mums get additional appointments at 32 weeks and 36 weeks. It says the baby box info is issued at the 24 week appointment and birth plan is discussed at the 32 week appointment.
I normally make my next appointment at the end the the midwive appointment, maybe the midwife forgot to do that with you? It does sound like you have missed your 28 week apply though. It might vary between health boards but 10 weeks between appointment at this stage does sound like you have missed something

I’m 31 weeks and in Scotland (Lanarkshire) and I seen the midwife at 28 weeks, again next week at 31+6 and then I think every 2-3 weeks until delivery is the plan. You should definitely be seeing someone fairly regularly by now to check heart rate and measurements etc. I’d phone and chase as my midwife is a bit scatty at times x

I haven’t had a baby for 10 years, but in ‘my day’, there was a list in my green notes stating when I should have appointments.

Muststopeating · 19/06/2021 16:25

Also in Scotland, baby number 3. You should absolutely have more appointments than that, you've dropped off a list somewhere. Give them a call.

Thanks for the advice everyone, I called the midwife yesterday and explained but she never said anything like “oh you should have been in before now” she just offered me an appointment next week! So no idea what’s happened!?

Make sure she knows you haven't had your 28 week bloods, did you get your whooping cough jab? Still time for both of course so don't panic (am assuming that side of things is the same in Scotland!). That does sound a bit crappy that nobody has noticed you've not been seen but on the plus side you're coming into the regular appointment bit now 🙂

Lola19 · 23/06/2021 20:23

Yeah I had my whooping cough jag fairly early on, I’m sure it was the same time as my 12 week scan! Thanks I’ll mention to her I haven’t been since 31st March 👍🏻 Yeah really weird that I seem to have been forgotten about! Do we get another scan to measure the baby or anything in the third trimester?

No more scans after 20 weeks if everything going smoothly, I did have one about 34 weeks as I'd had a couple of reduced movements. But really now it's about the bump measurement, urine and BP to keep an eye out for any early warning signs I think. You do your birth plan (lol) about 32, maybe 34 weeks I think as well.
