Latent Phase!

Hi Everyone,
Just wondered if anyone else had experienced this...
I started having contractions at 4:30am on Wednesday morning, then by about 9:30am they were coming every 4 minutes and were really painful. I went into hospital to get checked and I was only 2CM dilated so went home. Since then I’ve been having constant contractions between 4-10 minutes, it’s been horrific. At first it was bearable but this morning they got SO intense I couldn’t even speak (just cry lol), they’ve eased off a bit now but are still regular. Whenever I’ve read about the latent phase most women have said it’s not that painful etc but mine have been like what I imagined actual contractions to feel like. I haven’t been able to sleep at all really as they constantly wake me up and the midwife told me today the only advice she could give me was to go on a 5 mile walk! (I can barely walk down the road without getting an intense contraction) has anyone else experienced this? If so, what was your labor like? Were the pains worse? I can’t imagine them being any worse than what I’ve been experiencing over the past few days and it’s made me really nervous for the birth! Sad xx

Have you been checked since wednesday? If not i would request to be checked over and fingers crossed you are at 4cm or more

SunnySideUp2020 · 19/06/2021 13:23

Please dont go for a 5mile walk... 🙄
Get some rest, make yourself as comfortable as possible, try listening to some music, or hypnobirthing tracks and work on breathing very slowly.

My contractions were horrendous too and i was panicking as the pain was so intense with a breathing all over the place... when i got to hospital i was in active labor already. But they were coming every 2 to 3 minutes.
The midwife coached me to breathe and calmed me down until the epidural was in and it made a big difference to just slowly breathe instead of grabbing whatever and tensing up whilst panting 😅

But yes, get checked as if it is that painful you might be at 4cm and need to be admitted!

Good luck 🌟

Hopefully the op has been checked over and has pain relief!

@THATbasicSNOWFLAKE @SunnySideUp2020
Hi both, thanks so much for the responses!
I walked round the garden last night for an hour but no luck, I’ve not really slept much but the pain has changed, it’s more in my back now!
I’m hoping she makes an appearance over the weekend, I called the midwife earlier and she straight away asked me “is this your first baby” I feel like they always think you’re over reacting but this will be the 4th day of slow labor Sad fingers crossed I can update you both over the weekend saying she’s here!xxx

Did you ask about getting checked over op? I know its hard on the phone they can be really dismissive Sad

Buffyfan26 · 19/06/2021 17:43

OP I had this and my baby was back to back, is yours? I had contractions from Wed-Mon and couldn’t sleep because of the pain. On the Monday I had a bleed and they admitted me at 3cm to let me try to get to 8cm with pain relief x

Buffyfan26 · 19/06/2021 17:44

Further to my last I then was in active labour (from 4cm) at about 12pm on Monday and had to have an emergency C section on the Tuesday at 1215pm as my son was stuck and couldn’t get out x

THATbasicSNOWFLAKE · 20/06/2021 15:09

How are you doing @Alexandrababy1?

Alexandrababy1 · 22/06/2021 02:04

Hi @THATbasicSNOWFLAKE @Buffyfan26 @SunnySideUp2020 thank you for the responses!
I’ve had a busy few days, it turns out I had a UTI which is why the contractions were soooooo painful! When I went into hospital on Saturday cause I was in agony and couldn’t bare it they checked and I was already 7CM dilated (thank god), all the midwives were so impressed the contractions weren’t hurting as much after I had a bit of codine but it was because the contractions when I had the UTI were unbearable so anything in comparison didn’t feel as bad!
I had a healthy 8pounds 5 ounces girl on Saturday at around 6:30PM! Can’t believe they told us she was going to be underweight at 5 pounds 15 ounces, I ended up donating all the tiny baby stuff I bought to the hospital because it wouldn’t fit her hahaha! she was back to back too like you mentioned @buffyfan26!
Thank you guys for all the responses, it’s so nice hearing other people’s experiences knowing you’re not alone!xxx
