@bewitchingnight I haven't really been given any guidance other than to insinuate that high fasting readings are what would make them put me on metformin.

The last 2 nights I've been having a full fat Greek yoghurt just before going to bed & that really seems to have made a difference, so going to keep going with that for now

It's really bad how varied the advice is from trust to trust

bewitchingnight · 25/06/2021 11:11

Thanks all, I agree @GWhiteley why is the advice so different! That's good you can text @AdventuresAwait Hopefully on Monday I'll be able to ask about high readings and get a bit more info, it's annoying the midwife to contact only works 3 days a week! Fingers crossed for lots of low readings today for all of us!

@CherLW I had something similar, 3.1 fasting yesterday morning and I thought no chance is that right, did it again immediately and 4.7!

AdventuresAwait · 25/06/2021 18:30

@CherLW and @bewitchingnight, I've got insulin to take every evening. They replied to my text and the nurse saw me this afternoon. All other readings OK but she said morning one is important and not just down to diet. Dreading the first injection this evening...

GWhiteley · 25/06/2021 20:17

Feel for you @AdventuresAwait, not my idea of fun either.

The yoghurt before bed is working for me, but will have to see what dietician says next week

bewitchingnight · 25/06/2021 21:11

Oh sorry to hear that @AdventuresAwait I hope it goes alright and you have a good reading in the morning. That's good you got seen so quickly x

AdventuresAwait · 25/06/2021 21:15

Thank you @GWhiteley and @bewitchingnight. I'll let you know! Xx

Bubbles1st · 25/06/2021 22:39

@AdventuresAwait hope the first jab is ok, I was surprised that it didn't hurt and very relieved!

I'm already up to 4 units and this morning it was only just starting to lower the fasting reading. Hoping tomorrow it actually is under target.

Went out for lunch today. Was nice to be out but was difficult to chose something I really fancied that I could eat, anyway it was a success and I feel less phased I'm getting the balance and decisions right.

AdventuresAwait · 25/06/2021 22:58

@Bubbles1st, yes it was OK! I didn't feel it! So relieved that it seems I can do this...

I am starting on 8 units every evening. Will see how it is in the morning!

Bubbles1st · 25/06/2021 23:03

@AdventuresAwait 8 units! Another huge difference in trust guidance, I started on two and have to increase every 3 days until it's gets where it should.

CherLW · 26/06/2021 01:11

Sorry to hear about the insulin @AdventuresAwait but so glad that it was ok and you didn’t feel it. You’ve got this!! It’s so good you got seen so quick and they really are doing what’s best for us all and the small ones ❤️

Yes I agree @CherLW. I am able to text the nurses or dietitian anytime which is nice. And yesterday when I saw the nurse, I started chatting through birth options which was helpful. It felt good to explain my thoughts even though I need to speak to the consultant on the 8th. The nurse said she felt my reasons were valid and that the consultant would definitely talk it through.

@Bubbles1st, yes! I said to the nurse today how surprised I was that guidance differs so much per trust. So 8 units tonight (she said it was a very small dose so no chance of a hypo overnight) increased to 10 the next evening if morning reading is still at 5.5. Then to contact her following that if still high and we will gradually increase. Will see what my reading is pre breakfast! Do you just do evening injections too? Mine stung a tiny bit after, do yours at all? Hope you don't mind me asking x

Bubbles1st · 26/06/2021 07:19

@AdventuresAwait no mine don't sting afterwards but actually last nights really was a bit painful and I felt like I had to change site twice before actually pushing it in, not sure if I had a dodgy needle and first time that's happened. Or if I'm getting to the point of accidentally hitting the same spot as a previous one.

CherLW · 26/06/2021 10:18

Thanks @GWhiteley it’s always something that plays on my mind… the thought of having to rely on someone or get someone to move in really stresses me out! I’ll definitely talk to them about it when I see them… I mean if it happens then it happens but ideally I’ll opt for anything but!

@AdventuresAwait that’s so good you can text them whenever you need too! I would just have to call and so far they are always busy and I have to leave a message. That’s good about being able to chat to them about birth options… I feel that no one has really spoken to me about that and I’m wondering when as I’m now 30+1!!

Not having the best day so far, after being happy with yesterday's reading after lunch out and a big tea I woke up to a fasting reading of 6.5! I did it twice just to be sure.

Decided I better not have my new found breakfast of a filled flat bread despite it being fine with the metformin. Reverted back to Greek yoghurt, strawberries and pumpkin seeds which has always been fine.

Even with a metformin my after breakfast reading was 8.1!

I'm so upset.

I don't know if yesterday's food can continue to affect today's readings even though yesterday they were not problematic. I'm hoping it's a blip and not a sign my tolerance is deteriorating rapidly :(

Just wanted to vent somewhere.

AdventuresAwait · 26/06/2021 11:05

Sorry to hear that @Bubbles1st. It's frustrating isn't it? Unfortunately, they said to me that they expect levels to worsen so I'm trying not to, but it's hard not to be upset. It's only my morning reading at the moment but she's implied my others will likely deteriorate but that insulin will sort it. Mine was over 6 this morning with insulin ☹ (but I had a very bad dinner!). So will see that happens.

But it could be a blip and yours will stay fine. I guess we have take it test by test... you've been doing great.

Bubbles1st · 26/06/2021 11:11

@AdventuresAwait thanks, I know we've all been trying but it's so hard not to take it personally!

Was your reading high after your evening meal?

Im wondering if the fact I didn't eat until 9.30 has made an impact, however it was still 10 hours before my fasting reading.

GWhiteley · 26/06/2021 12:19

@Bubbles1st I too am not having the best of days. Awful nights sleep compounded by going down to have breakfast to realise my selfish husband had eaten the last of the strawberries without me realising! He suggested grapes or apple but grapes have a high sugar content & granny smiths are a bit too tangy for breakfast. So i had to go & do my big food shop on an empty stomach. Then I came home to find he's been eating my pom bears - the only crisps I can really eat! So I ended up having a bit of a meltdown & hes buggered off to Bristol saying he's fed up of me being all over the place. He can have anything he wants to eat - why does he have to have the few things that I can & know my readings will be fine?!

Sorry for the rant but I've not really got any friends or family nearby that I can just go & see so feeling a bit alone at the mo

bewitchingnight · 26/06/2021 12:26

We're all doing great, it's really hard Thanks the thing that frustrates me is that there are never any safe meals, it seems something that's absolutely fine one day isn't the next, there are so many variables!

I heard that it usually gets worse between weeks 32 and 36 so kind of dreading that.

Hope you both have lower readings after lunch.

bewitchingnight · 26/06/2021 12:29

Rant away @GWhiteley that's a really annoying start to the morning. Other people don't understand how invested you have to be in checking what you're eating. I had dinner with my in laws and my FIL was so irritating whenever I said I couldn't eat something, as if I was just being precious. It wasn't even as if he had cooked any of the food, he was at our house!

Bubbles1st · 26/06/2021 15:12

@GWhiteley sorry to hear you're having a rough day too. I can imagine that an unsupportive spouse can make it feel even worse, even more so when it's just ignorance.

I got a bit of grief from my DP when I had to start insulin and left for the appointment in tears. I told him he had until I got home to read about why I need it and understand that every single
Meal and snack needs to be balanced, that it wasn't a diet where I can watch what I eat over the day and week. He has been better since then and when I had my tears this morning he was very sweet and and has been since (he does however laugh every time I cry wondering what it will be this time!)

I had a flatbread for lunch with chicken and salad. I had a normal reading afterwards so I do feel better and that the day has been saved. Will try not to repeat a day of high but under target readings again, obviously it's just a bit too much for my body to catch up with overnight.

@bewitchingnight we are all adapting and doing so well among everything else we have to face at this time or pregnancy. I am however concerned about how it will change the further along we get. I guess the growth scans at 32 and 36 weeks are timed for this reason and it reassures me that despite how I feel about everything I'm trying my best for my boy and the hospital are invested in his welfare too.

GWhiteley · 26/06/2021 15:19

@Bubbles1st he's mostly ok, but sometimes he is very selfish in eating the things I buy knowing those are the only things I can eat yet he has biscuits & crisps etc he can have.

Had a high lunch reading annoyingly, , though I washed my hands & it did come down slightly. think I may have put slightly too my mayo in with my tuna. Luckily we're having homemade curry for dinner & the only thing I'll really need to watch is how much rice I eat. It's one of my faves so really looking forward to it, especially as hubby is cooking!

Bubbles1st · 26/06/2021 22:36

@GWhiteley hope you enjoyed your tea!

I had a gorgeous tea and had a good reading to end the day so feeling a bit better after this mornings wobble. Tomorrow is a new day.

GWhiteley · 27/06/2021 07:19

@Bubbles1st it was delicious & I had a low reading afterwards so happy with that. Glad you had a nice dinner too 😊

Today is a new day! Definitely need to drink more water though, had cramp again at 6.30am cause I didn't drink enough yesterday

GWhiteley · 27/06/2021 08:00

Do you think you could drink a cup of tea, not necessarily with sugar, while you wait for the hr between the meal & taking your reading?

DressyGerbera · 27/06/2021 08:49

@GWhiteley I would think that is ok? Esp if you don't add any sugar or milk to it?
