Hey ladies and welcome to the newbies!! This is a good place to be with our GD diagnosis!!

This week as it’s been so hot there have been a few days where I haven’t had breakfast, I just feel a bit sick and too hot to eat! I do my normal morning reading but then test again before I have some lunch. Do you think this is effecting my blood sugars by not eating breakfast?

Also whoever mentioned the sweaty pants… 100%! I’ve been using panty liners for weeks now!

@CherLW im like that with lunches, I make myself get up and eat breakfast as a routine but then have absolutely no hunger at lunch. I read were supposed to eat 3 meals and 3 snacks a day to keep levels even but I cant do it, it's too much food. To be honest I try and stay sensible about it, but other than testing every hour to see if I'm stable or not I know I can't control it, so I just go by the levels that are after meals and if I miss a meal I test around the time I would have eaten.

Plus there's days like today where I have a doctors appt and need to pick some stuff up from the in laws, I wont get in til about 9 and if i eat that late my morning readings are high so I'll probably miss that meal. Not sure if I'm actually doing the right thing there, but life does sometimes get in the way

CherLW · 22/07/2021 13:37

@Scotti84 it’s difficult isn’t it! I never have the 3 snacks they recommend. I usually have 3 meals and then maybe a snack in the evening like yogurt and fruit.

I feel like I can’t start testing more during the day to see what my levels are doing when I do skip a meal. I’m sure on my next appointment they will notice I’ve skipped some meals but it’s just because I’m not hungry or it’s too hot, not because I don’t want to eat because I’m worried etc.

Hey ladies!
@Moominmiss yay to your target fasting levels today!
@CherLW lol it was me who asked about sweaty pants! I got myself in such stress yesterday that I did end up going to see the midwife. My peanut is healthy as a horse so al good but I just worked myself up.

Also have just hit third trimester today at 28weeks and just had my 2nd covid jab! Yay xxx

CherLW · 22/07/2021 16:39

@Firevie I’m glad the midwife was able to put your mind at rest and your little one is doing well ❤️ it’s worrying isn’t it to think what if you’re leaking fluid etc.

So had my scan this eve, Dr was pleased with everything, she's a normal size, not bigger due to the GD or anything, I've got to call the hospital where she'll be delivered tomorrow to make an appt with the consultant as they won't let me go past the 40 weeks. Just need to decide whether, if it gets to that point, I want to be induced or have a c section... I'm leaning toward c sec as I just have this feeling that being induced would be a shock to my system and babys and things wouldn't go as smoothly, but the recovery time and extra time in hospital with a c sec isn't really appealing either. Hopefully I'll get more info from the consultant. At the end of the day I just want her safe and healthy.

GWhiteley · 23/07/2021 07:36

My scan on weds was fine, they seem happy with her growth & say she's not growing too fast but will have another scan at 38 weeks in 4 weeks time & that will determine if they'll let me go full term or if I'll have to be induced depending on how big baby has grown

Yesterday I had exactly the same lunch as I did the previous day, but with full fat mayo & I had a good reading! Told hubby & he's agreed as long as I don't go nuts with it then it's obviously a good idea. Just gotta hope there's some on the shelf!

Kona84 · 23/07/2021 08:59

Hi thanks for the support on my previous message. I got my testing kit yesterday and started testing after my lunch.
I had a shop bought cheddar ploughman’s and a packet of apple crisps- got a reading of 6.3 testing an hour later.
Salad with veggie fingers for tea- and a ice lolly as I was struggling in the heat- 7.8 reading afterwards so right on the limit.
This morning first thing was 4.6- had weetabix with semi skimmed milk for breakfast (I wanted to see if I was lucky to be able to still tolerate cereal) nope 9.3 .
I’m going to try peanut butter on toast tomorrow to see if that is better.

AllTheUsernamesAreAlreadyTaken · 23/07/2021 09:41

If all my readings are within the limit (considering I’m getting 2s-4s before and after food typically) and my scans show baby is growing normally, will I be allowed to go to 41 weeks as the NHS website says?

AdventuresAwait · 23/07/2021 09:56

Hi @AllTheUsernamesAreAlreadyTaken, that's my understanding, if you're not on any medication. In my trust you can continue past 39 weeks and beyond 40 if you're not. As soon as you're on any tablets or insulin, it changes and they suggest induction between 38 and 39 weeks. But that's my area, I know things can differ depending where you are x

AllTheUsernamesAreAlreadyTaken · 23/07/2021 10:16

There’s still hope then. Thank you!

CherLW · 23/07/2021 17:28

I have absolutely no food in, I wrote my shopping list but I’m just too tired and hot to go out.. have decided to look at getting a take away and it’s so hard thinking of what to have!!

@CherLW I miss the days of carefree meals!

CherLW · 23/07/2021 17:59

Me too @bewitchingnight I should have just made myself go food shopping but nope!
I’ve gone for a subway salad with double meat and double cheese…

Feeling crap. Think I’m going to get a call from the GDM team. Had a text through today to say that I’m not inputting enough test results. But thing is I’ve felt really quite ill the last few days while it’s been so hot, and I’ve barely eaten a meal, so had no readings to do. I managed a late night snack last night at 11pm so did a reading around midnight, just so I’d have something to put into the app. Then have been doing my fasting readings. But I literally have no appetite. I know it’s not healthy to not be eating, and I’m sure it’s a mixture of the heat and the metformin reducing my appetite, but I don’t know what to do. I can’t test after meals if I’m not having a meal.

Today for example I’ve eaten about 3 grapes. That’s it. I’m not hungry. The thought of eating makes me feel ill. I’m drinking plenty. But that’s another day so far with no after breakfast or lunch readings. My partner is worried and is determined to make me eat even just a small meal tonight, which I will try to do, but I’m dreading it.

Really hoping things will pick up when this heatwave is over. But I’d noticed a drop in my appetite since starting the metformin anyway, so think the heat has just made it worse.

Just dreading a telling off, when I don’t know what I can do. I can’t force myself to eat if it’s making me feel so ill. My partner keeps saying I should do it for the baby, and it just makes me feel worse. As if I haven’t already thought that.

AllTheUsernamesAreAlreadyTaken · 23/07/2021 18:39

My pharmacy has no strips so I think I’m going to be missing readings from yesterday, today and all weekend at least.
I’m sticking to meals I’ve had this week to keep my levels even.
There’s not much more I can do.

I really hope you don’t get a telling off @Moominmiss. They may be concerned the medication is making you sick though.

Feel better soon!

Sillysocks998 · 23/07/2021 18:59

I'm on day 6 of GD diet and I am craving a bag of chips from chippy! 😳😬🙄😔 Today, porridge sent me over the edge at 8.4 after breakfast. So I'll have to stick to yoghurt for breakfast. Eagerly awaiting for shopping delivery tomorrow night! I find brown pasta good to keep levels down. Also did the egg mayo yesterday with 2 Liv life breads and heinz vegan mayo, reading was 6.3!
But I understand it depends on us individually too. We're all at different stages. I'm just feeling a lot of aches and pains now. I've got to decide what mode of delivery I want. I just dont want Injections in my back! 😭. I'll probably have elective c sec because it'll be planned. I can't deal with anymore surgeries and hospital visits. Stay safe everyone x

Scotti84 · 23/07/2021 19:26

@Sillysocks998 as crazy as it sounds, try a small bag of chippy chips. I know we're all different but im fine with potatos of all forms as long as its not too much. I can have 6 mcchicken nuggets and a medium fries from mcdonalds and still be under target. Its the one thing that keeps me going atm, knowing if i have a crappy day i have that junk option. As long as its not too often.

@Moominmiss can you call them and explain how youre feeling, ask if they can give you any advice? Get in there with the questions before they have a chance to tell you off? They might have some ideas for smaller lighter meals that will keep your levels stable?

Sillysocks998 · 23/07/2021 19:38

@Scotti84 at my next craving day I will try that. Thank you. The porridge was a test too but failed! When the mmols are off target it can get you down. I've not yet tried the metformin but you've all said it makes you sick so I really hope they keep me off it. It's getting cooler ladies. Stay strong x

Bubbles1st · 23/07/2021 19:56

@Moominmiss sorry to hear you're struggling.

Are you on metformin just for fasting? If so then maybe they can switch you to insulin instead and you won't have the metformin side effects. However the metformin might be making you feel sick because you're stomach is empty.

I know vicious circle but you do need to try and find something you can stomach, maybe a keto protein shake even to give you some strength and energy.

Moominmiss · 23/07/2021 19:57

Thanks all, well I managed half a salmon fillet, one large new potato, and some peas - all drizzled in butter. That’s got to be better than nothing. Even if I do feel so full I’ll never eat for another week lol. Time to test in 15 minutes. Fingers crossed.

Xiaohei · 23/07/2021 20:04

Hello, this is my 4th pregnancy and my 4th GD rodeo!! This time from 13 weeks Sad When I get a craving, if I really, really want it I then I have what I want and then go for an hour’s power yomp up the hill behind us walking and that usually gets me back down to where I should beSmile.
I was induced with my first at 40 weeks but I’m sure he just wasn’t ready ( EMCS after three days) so with the others I’ve gone into spontaneously labour at 41+5 and 42+ 2. But my local hospital offers to scan for liquor vol and placental function every 2 days, so after 40 weeks I opt into that extra monitoring, and obvs I tune in ALOT to monitoring movements as I know what the NICE guidelines recommend.
The GD really upset and worried me with my first and defo took the ‘shine’ off things as I was so concerned about it all. With each pregnancy since I’ve learned what I can and can’t eat more and also learned that if I exercise ( weights) it buys me 24hrs muscle burn so brings down my morning readings, although if I have a terrible night’s sleep that still counteracts it. Anyway, what I’m trying to say is it’s not easy at all and it’s literally taken me years and I still get it wrong!! So to all you GD ladies I just wanted to say I think you are brilliant 🤩. Managing all the appointments and the monitoring and the constant thinking of what to eat or not eat is just a level of hassle no one needs, let alone tired preggos!! So go easy on yourselves, one day at a time, you’re all fucking awesome 😎

Firevie · 24/07/2021 06:54

Morning ladies! Just catching up. @Moominmiss well done for your dinner last night. Sounds great! Hope you had a good reading after!
@Xiaohei hats off to you for this a 4th time!!!
I got a call from the diabetic nurse today she said my after mea readings are perfect but she wants to control my fasting levels with Metformin. I’m hoping there won’t be any side effects. I’ll have my first one this evening with my dinner. Also had v late takeout dinner last night as was running around doing errands all day. Got my highest reading so far at 10.1! Never again am I experimenting. I am going to stick to the ‘good’ meals that have given me good readings in the last two weeks. Xxx

Poppysmile · 24/07/2021 19:06
