Just a little group for the ladies with GD to talk, ask all the questions and be there for each other

Morning ladies! Quick question - have you guys had the Covid jab? First and/or second?
I’ve had my first one in week 22 pre GD diagnosis and I’m scheduled for my second one this Thursday when I’ll be 28weeks. Thanks

Scotti84 · 19/07/2021 09:17

@Firevie I've decided against it until baby is here. Our covid numbers are quite low atm and i don't really go anywhere to mix with people, so for me personally I decided to wait. Am absolutely understanding of anyone that has it though, especially with rising cases in the UK.

PlantMummy87 · 19/07/2021 09:20

@Firevie I had my first at 16 weeks, and booked in for my second at 24 weeks. I wasn't planning on getting it so early in my pregnancy but where I live the numbers are really escalating and it's causing me so much anxiety 😥

DressyGerbera · 19/07/2021 09:30

@Scotti84 good to hear you had a good fastign reading this morning, it is a bit of trial and error!

@AllTheUsernamesAreAlreadyTaken 2 readings are pretty, don't want to worry you but best to check in with your diabetic nurse/midwife? esp if it's after a snack? how much carb are you cutting out? ideally not everything, you should still have some carbs.

Neither ever answer the phone.
I have an appointment on Wednesday so I’ll just wait until then.
Thank you

AdventuresAwait · 19/07/2021 11:14

@AllTheUsernamesAreAlreadyTaken, I've been told that if I go below 4 it is a hypo but maybe that's because I'm on a dose of insulin? Could you check with your day assessment unit if the diabetic team and midwives aren't contactable?

@Firevie, I've decided to wait until after baby is here.

I’m not on any medication. My numbers have really dropped this week and the only thing I’ve done different is stop taking my antihistamine.

I’ll give them a ring and try. Thanks

Firevie · 19/07/2021 12:04

@PlantMummy87 thanks how many weeks are you now? Agreed the rising number in cases is scary!

PlantMummy87 · 19/07/2021 12:18

@Firevie I'm only 21 weeks today, so a few more weeks to get my second vaccine. I'm not sure even then I'm going to feel safer though. I wish the government had considered pregnant women and other vulnerable members of society when dropping the restrictions.

I had to pop to the shop earlier and it was such a stress for me. I've decided to wear my 'baby on board' badge and personally still wearing my mask when out and about at the moment as sometimes it's not overly obvious I'm pregnant yet depending on what I'm wearing. Yesterday when walking home from popping into town I had to step out into the road/cycle lanes with moving traffic so many times as the path was heaving with tourists and they weren't going to move so I either risked physically having to touch them as they brushed past and risk catching Covid or stepping out. I feel like the next few months are going to be even more isolating for me 😓

Sorry about the mini rant 😥

bewitchingnight · 19/07/2021 12:40

@Firevie had both, 23 & 29 weeks. Would have had it earlier but that was before it was recommended for pregnant women.

AllTheUsernamesAreAlreadyTaken · 19/07/2021 12:47

I’m due my second vaccine in August.

CherLW · 19/07/2021 18:40

@AllTheUsernamesAreAlreadyTaken I’ve had some low readings in the 3’s and I’ve seen my diabetic midwife since then and she asked if I was eating enough! I assured her that I’m not the kind of person to not eat, I would eat every second if i could 😂. She didn’t seem concerned tho and just booked me in again for 4 weeks later

@CherLW oh it is so strange how it differs in different areas. I just don't understand it!

CherLW · 19/07/2021 18:46

That’s what I don’t understand either @AdventuresAwait it’s a medical condition but it’s treated so differently!
How are your levels going?

OP posts:
AdventuresAwait · 19/07/2021 19:31

Good thanks. Had one hypo/under 4 but soon dealt with it. Otherwise my levels are good. Just the odd high and they said that's fine. I submit my results every Monday and they're happy for me to continue as I am at the moment.

CherLW · 19/07/2021 19:41

That’s good news @AdventuresAwait it’s always good to be told they are fine, it takes some of the worry away!

OP posts:
AdventuresAwait · 19/07/2021 19:46

Yes that's true @CherLW! Not worrying so much and really getting to know what my body can tolerate so not having to think about things so much. I'm sure I'll start to worry again before my next growth scan on 5th August! 😊 When is yours? Xx

CherLW · 19/07/2021 19:50

@AdventuresAwait mine is the 4th August! It seems I’m always one day before you! I’m nervous about this one as they will be comparing things to the previous results etc and I guess that’s when they will need to start making an decisions if any crop up.
It’s feeling more normal now isn’t it and when you find things that work well with your body it’s a good feeling as it’s another ‘safe’ food or meal! X

OP posts:
AdventuresAwait · 19/07/2021 21:51

Yes @CherLW, I'm eager to see how this scan will compare on the growth charts. The weeks seem to be passing so quickly. Only 6.5 to go!

Bubbles1st · 19/07/2021 22:16

I had my 32 week growth scan today.

Estimated weight 4lb 11oz but they said there is an 11oz leaway either side of that!

His belly is a bit bigger and out of proportion for the rest of him but not concerning, as overall he is just above the 50th percentile and on a good curve based on 28 weeks.

The GD consultant has prescribed me
Insulin to take a breakfast as my readings are creeping up there and he thinks my tolerance will only get worse. I don't need to start taking it yet but stay in touch with the GD nurse and at least I have it ready and can avoid another trip to the hospital.

Back again for 36 weeks when his size and progress will determine their recommendation for delivery. I made it clear today I didn't want inducing and I was reassured it's my birth and my choice and that if I don't follow their guidance which everyone is offered then I will be alternative options to suit my preference, including a further growth scan at 38 weeks to keep a close on eye baby if I want to get as close to term as possible before intervention.

AdventuresAwait · 19/07/2021 22:21

That all sounds really positive @Bubbles1st!

Bubbles1st · 19/07/2021 22:25

@AdventuresAwait yes i feel better but I still can't believe it's a 3 hour visit to have scan and see midwives and consultants.

See what 36 weeks brings.

AdventuresAwait · 19/07/2021 22:30

Oh wow @Bubbles1st, how come it was a 3 hour visit??

Bubbles1st · 20/07/2021 08:11

@AdventuresAwait that just seems to be how long it takes to get seen by everyone.

It includes the waiting time for the hospital pharmacy too though as the prescription they give can't be fulfilled anywhere else which is annoying.

bewitchingnight · 20/07/2021 08:13

That sounds pretty positive @Bubbles1st especially if they made you feel heard about your birth choices too.
