I’m 35 weeks and been diagnosed with cholestasis and just wondering when most people were induced, if they were.

Thanks!

Diagnosed at 31 with levels over 140. Induced at 37.

r0ck · 17/06/2021 21:51

I was diagnosed quite late (38 weeks) and induced two days after.

pissface · 17/06/2021 21:58

I was diagnosed at 37+4, induction started at 37+5, baby born dead on 38.

zebrapig · 17/06/2021 22:00

Diagnosed at 32+6, born by EMCS at 33+6, but I also had pre-eclampsia so probably not a true reflection.

Thank you for your comments everyone!

Do you know what your liver function test results were?

My diagnosis was on Sunday (week 34+4) at 240, bile acid 21. Due to speak to consultant for a review tomorrow.

I was diagnosed 36 weeks, induced 3 days later, ds was born at 37 weeks.

tuxedocat · 17/06/2021 22:39

I was diagnosed at 38+5 and was induced the next day giving birth at 38+6. I think my levels were 16ish, only just over the 14 which I think is the number they set as high. I was past term so they got him out ASAP.

Have they mentioned about urso or anything for a few weeks to get baby to term? I was of the understanding it was only dangerous if not monitored near term but I could very well be wrong.

spaceghetto · 17/06/2021 22:41

I found it very stressful! One consultant made me panicked about the need to get induced and another made me feel over the top for even considering it. I was so glad to be induced in the end.

hkp288 · 17/06/2021 22:44

@tuxedocat yes, I was given a prescription for urso on Sunday which I’ve been taking 750mg a day since Monday.

Diagnosed at 37+2 induced same day EMCS at 37+5 baby born collapsed lung NICU 2 weeks liver levels at 26

FamilyAreEverything · 17/06/2021 23:00

I was induced at 37 weeks with levels of 48. The guidance had changed very recently and your levels are currently nice and low. The recommendations are regular twice weekly bloods for bile acids and you could go to 39 weeks providing you get your results back quickly (within 24hours) and they remain below 40. The risk to baby occurs with levels over 100 after 35 weeks.
Urso made no difference to my itch or bile acids, which was been confirmed by data from the PITCHES trial.
There’s a great support group on Facebook called ICP support. Highly recommend. It’s run by a lady called Jenny Chambers who works with researchers at Kings (I think).

tuxedocat · 18/06/2021 07:25

@FamilyAreEverything thanks for the update! I’m expecting my second and obviously there’s a chance it would come back, my midwife said it wouldn’t, the consultant after my birth said it would. It’s great to know the guidance has changed though incase it does.

MrsW2603 · 18/06/2021 07:35

I was diagnosed at 37+1 with a bile acid reading of 26. I was induced at 37+4, baby born at 38 weeks

DuvetCaterpillar · 18/06/2021 09:30

Diagnosis at about 34 weeks, induction/section at 36+2, but I had preeclampsia and gestational diabetes too, so extra factors in my case.

Definitely look up ICP Support - there's a website too. It's spun out of the lab of Prof Catherine Williamson, who's one of the leading researchers in this area, and Jenny Chambers and team are fantastic. There's lots of advice/ best practice treatment pathways for your medical team too if they're not as familiar with it.

hkp288 · 18/06/2021 14:35

@zebrapig interestingly I’ve just had a preeclampsia diagnosis on top of the cholestasis today. Been told I will be induced before week 38 (currently 35+2).

@hkp288 I'm sure you will be well monitored now. If you get any of the major PE symptoms then make sure you phone them straight away, I was really ill with it in my first pregnancy (the midwife totally missed it!) Angry

HornungTheHelpful · 18/06/2021 19:37

There is a fabulous ICP support group on Facebook where the moderators are fantastically responsive - you should definitely join. 21 for bile acid is at the lower end for diagnosis and with similar levels I had c section just before 37 weeks (I’d had a previous section so didn’t want to be induced)

5willmakeyougetdownnow · 18/06/2021 19:42

I was diagnosed week 33. Was on Urso. Due to be induced at 37 weeks but went in to labour naturally at 36.4.
