Hi, has anyone had the COVID vaccine? I'm due to get mine next weekend but still confused if I should do it. Please share your experiences or thoughts!!

@chelley123

Hey, I am still completely in two minds, yesterday I was adamant I wasn't getting it but today I feel like I should.

I think mainly because they are talking about perhaps a 3rd wave and a friend of mine caught Covid at the start of the year when pregnant and unfortunately went into early labor at 20 weeks and lost the baby.
Its just so scary having the vaccine when you have a baby growing inside of you.
I know a few pregnant woman who have chose to have it and have been ok.

I think I will end up getting the vaccine but waiting until I'm 16 weeks. I am currently nearly 14 weeks.

100% your own personal decision, I hope this may help in some way?

Omg thanks for sharing. I am more afraid of not having the vaccine too... I haven't heard anything bad either after some pregnant women I know who got the vaccine

I think the benefits of having the vaccine outweighs the risk of getting Covid but still very scary for us.

If I decide to have the vaccine I know I will be terrified and anxious for days!

Nightmare!

Braxtonlife · 17/06/2021 14:23

Same here. Booked it for next weekend so I have a deadline to force myself to make a decision but still haven't made it.

I wasn't going to have it but allthese talks of a third wave now have scared me a bit. I'm 27 weeks so just about to enter the risky bit.

My main reason for having it is that I have a DC at nursery, otherwise for the sake of 3 months DH and I would have been happy to just shield, we work from home anyway.

Initially I wasn't too worried as DC had Covid after a nursery outbreak just before I got pregnant and I never had symptoms despite being sneezed/coughed and dribbled on!

But it's a different variant and my immune system probably isn't the same with pregnancy.

I also felt like everyone is having the vaccine but me! I didn't know there were other pregnant ladies out there who weren't sure!

Braxtonlife · 17/06/2021 14:27

@LAR96, exactly :(. I feel like once it's inside me I will be so anxious about it, but equally feel I don't have a choice :(

sylbunny · 17/06/2021 14:30

I had covid at 29 weeks. I was very ill with it and although my baby wasn't effected i would not want to repeat that if I were pregnant. The vaccine was offered to pregnant women at the time.

Toastedsesame · 17/06/2021 14:31

Yes. I had my first jab just before I got pregnant and I had my second jab a few weeks ago. I'm 20 weeks and work in a public facing role so decided the risks of the jab outweigh the risks of catching covid. I had pfizer.

jojododobobo · 17/06/2021 14:31

It's so difficult isn't it. With this new variant ripping through the country so fast I've decided to go for it. I booked mine today for 2 weeks time when I'll be 28 weeks but my second one is booked for the day before I'm due, does anyone know if it's possible to get this brought forward a couple of weeks or are they quite strict on the waiting times?

Cap89 · 17/06/2021 14:44

@jojododobobo you should be able to bring it forward. Once you’ve had your first, log back on, cancel your second and rebook. Every one of my friends and my OH and I have done this and managed to bring forward by a month.

LAR96 · 17/06/2021 14:48

I think if you're pregnant they may be able to get you in quicker? My friend booked hers yesterday and got hers today she is 30 weeks pregnant :)

I think I will get my vaccine once I get to 16 weeks

c307 · 17/06/2021 14:51

I'm 30 weeks pregnant and booked in to have mine tomorrow. I've been very unsure and if things weren't increasing again I'd probably have left it but sadly everything is back on the rise 😕

Violet1988 · 17/06/2021 15:02

@jojododobobo hi yes I'm a vaccinator and pregnant women can get their second dose brought forward so they are fully vaccinated by 35 weeks, as long as the two vaccines are at least 21 days apart its fine. Contact your vaccination centre.

jojododobobo · 17/06/2021 15:22

@Violet1988 @Cap89

Thanks so much that's really good to know

Marauder94 · 17/06/2021 15:26

I'm only 7 weeks but terrified of this new variant. I really don't know what to do tbh!

showmethegin · 17/06/2021 17:58

I'm under the care of Professor Quenby at Tommy's Coventry who is recommending all pregnant or TTC women have the Pfizer jab as soon as offered it. I trust her!

Amichelle84 · 17/06/2021 18:08

I had my 1st jab (Astra) when I was about 6w because I am one of the clinically vulnerable ones so we decided it was in my best interest to get it. No issues.

I should have had my 2nd but I believe they recommend the Pfizer one for pregnant women which I can't get because you can't mix them apparently. I've decided to try and be as careful as possible until I give birth, I'm 27w now.

Aquamarine1029 · 17/06/2021 18:12

I would get the vaccine in the second trimester. My SIL got covid at 35 weeks and it was very, very bad. I don't mean to alarm you but pregnant women are more vulnerable to covid, and the vaccine can help protect you. After what my SIL went through, I would recommend every pregnant woman gets the vaccine.

Shootingstar11 · 17/06/2021 18:30

I’m having mine on Saturday at 33 weeks. I was in two minds but like other posters with the new variant and being more vulnerable in the third trimester it seems the benefits outweigh the risks. Hopefully I may pass some immunity on to my baby. If I wasn’t pregnant I wouldn’t have hesitated at all but I did think a lot about possible long term effects. However I know someone who contracted Covid in the third trimester and had a premature birth and an emergency section. It seems sensible to get it but I understand why people wold be uncertain. It’s a big responsibility!

Flutterby8 · 17/06/2021 18:39

I'm 15 weeks and had my covid vaccine this week.

Ive been on the fence about the vaccine for a long time. I dont like the idea of taking a vaccine that hasnt been extensively tested where nobody knows about long term side effects, especially for unborn babies.
But, equally, I dont want to have covid.
Its a really tough decision.

In the end I figured the risk of having covid, especially in the 3rd trimester can be awful. I dont want to give birth pre-term and risk there being health complications with my baby.
I dont want to be admitted to hospital with respiratory problems and be on my own.
Other deactivated vaccines are given to pregnant women with no problems, so why should this be different.
If the healthcare professionals truely thought there was a huge risk, it wouldnt be offered to pregnant women at all.
On the plus, some antibodies may be passed to the baby.

After the vaccine I was ok.
I did come over exrremely exhausted that evening and had to go to bed early. I also had a stupidly painful arm. Other than that, ive been ok.

It is a very individual choice though.
You have to go with your gut feeling.

goneroguetoday · 17/06/2021 18:43

I really want to get it but will wait till 12-14 weeks

SouthwestSis · 17/06/2021 18:48

Definitely be very careful about who youre mixing with indoors until you've had both jabs. Covid in pregnancy can be very dangerous and infection rates are so high now especially in cities

Wowthisisreal · 17/06/2021 18:51

I am 18 weeks pregnant and had the vaccine at 14 weeks. No regrets. The risks of COVID in pregnancy are well known and serious. I'm anxious being pregnant in a pandemic anyway and being v cautious but knowing I have some degree of protection is reassuring.

I would recommend listening to the Stella Creasy webinar with Pregn

Wowthisisreal · 17/06/2021 18:51

Sorry posted too soon! *pregnant then screwed. I was also uncertain about getting the vaccine but found this extremely helpful.

rulesofthecar · 17/06/2021 20:37

I had mine a few weeks before my 20 week scan, and everything was ok with my baby at the scan, which was very reassuring. I was worried about the Indian variant at the time, and have older DC at school, so I feel very relieved to have had it.

TakeYourFinalPosition · 17/06/2021 21:34

I had my second AZ today. I was in pieces about whether to do it but I’m glad I did. So far no side effects other than a sore arm, and I’m pleased that I’ve done what I can to protect us both, and hopefully pass on some antibodies to baby, too.

It’s a tough call and I think I’d have beaten myself up either way, but I’m pleased that I’ve done it, for tonight at least!
