Hi, has anyone had the COVID vaccine? I'm due to get mine next weekend but still confused if I should do it. Please share your experiences or thoughts!!

I am only 4 weeks tomorrow and don’t know what to do the stress is making me ill with all the new cases. I read somewhere that it’s best to wake until you are 13 weeks pregnant is that true. All you ladies seem to me much further on than me did you all wait until that point ? X

3ormoredogs · 17/06/2021 21:59

I’ve been in tearful over this for a few days!

I don’t want Covid. I work in an unsafe environment.
But I also don’t want an untested vaccine Sad

No idea what to do for the best!

Mrsmujic · 17/06/2021 22:00

Ive also just had a BFP but not sure to get jab so soon? Could it risk miscarriage? I'm not sure! I'm not an anti vax but waited so long for bfp! X

Jaylou7rainbow · 17/06/2021 22:11

It’s such a dilemma 😢😢😢🤯

What do you mean by untested?
3ormoredogs · 18/06/2021 06:59

@Wowthisisreal I am aware the vaccine has passed all tests in adults but not in pregnant women or children.

I can’t find any studies of babies born post vaccine that say it’s safe nor can I find any information at all from medical professionals other than it should be okay.

Also when you go to the vaccine centre as a pregnant woman I’ve been told you must sign a disclaimer to say it’s your own choice. That does not sit right with me.

I’m not sure I want to take that sort of unproven risk to the baby but I really do want the vaccine.

sasbiscuit · 18/06/2021 07:12

I'm 10 weeks and haven't decided. Everyone I read about who is pregnant always seems to be in 2nd or 3rd trimester, never 1st..

I work in further education and have been around students throughout the pandemic. If I have had covid I didnt know about it.

Finding it hard to decide what to do.

girlsallowed21 · 18/06/2021 07:28

I've had mine about 3 weeks ago. No side effects thankfully, apart from a sore arm the next day.
I was anxious for weeks before I decided to get it.
What made me decide to get it is the fact that it doesn't transfer through the placenta to baby and pregnant women in 3rd trimester are very high risk of COVID complications (I'm 31 weeks pregnant).

It's super scary deciding to get the vaccine when you're pregnant. I cancelled mine twice before but it's not compulsory so take your time and make an informed decision.

I dis so much reading on the pros and cons for pregnant women and also spoke to my doctor about it. You get a letter from your doctor saying something in the lines of you're pregnant and want to get the vaccine.
All the best!😻

girlsallowed21 · 18/06/2021 07:31

@Wowthisisreal

Sorry posted too soon! *pregnant then screwed. I was also uncertain about getting the vaccine but found this extremely helpful.
I listened to this webinar too! Really helpful 👍🏽
choccrumpet · 18/06/2021 07:45

@sasbiscuit I got the Pfizer vaccine the day before I got my bfp so in my first trimester. Had some nausea and chills that lasted a few days but was fine afterwards.

Reading these comments I'm really eager to get my 2nd dose asap. I wonder if I would be able to get one booked in earlier than in 8-12 weeks through my gp if I asked them. Has anyone done that? For context, my first one was booked through my gp too.

IndigoJam · 18/06/2021 08:04

I had moderna at 11 weeks. Sore arm that was it. Didn't need to sign any disclaimer or anything.

Ritamarie85 · 18/06/2021 10:15

I took the vaccine at 19 and 22 weeks. Very grateful I was able to get it.

TakeYourFinalPosition · 18/06/2021 11:41

@3ormoredogs Pfizer has been given to over 90,000 pregnant women in the US, and a decent amount have had their babies now.

I had my 2nd jab yesterday and didn't have to sign anything. There was no disclaimer, written or verbal, that it was my own decision.

It's still absolutely up to you if you go ahead, but I thought it was worth mentioning that neither of your concerns is true anymore x

3ormoredogs · 18/06/2021 12:05

@TakeYourFinalPosition thank you for this.
My vaccine is Sunday so not much longer to consider it.

Out of those 90000 were there any issues found do you know?

I’m pleased about the disclaimer bit- that freaked me out!

TakeYourFinalPosition · 18/06/2021 12:31

@3ormoredogs No worries - I'm glad you took it as I intended! I have been reading like a crazy woman, it's such a tough decision.

So I just looked up the most recent verified stats that I could find again - As of the 28th May, 121,000 pregnant people have been vaccinated in the US, and they found no statistical increase in miscarriage, pre-term birth, restricted growth or stillbirth - in fact there was a slight reduction when compared to 'usual' numbers.

There's been no side effects in the average growth of the baby since, or in breastfeeding success rates, either.

I found that really reassuring, and on balance with the stats around miscarriage/still births in the third trimester if you get Covid, that swung it in favour of getting the vaccine for me.

I told them at check-in yesterday that I was pregnant, and they came to collect me out of the queue and took me to a quiet bay with a midwife which was nice, and told me to stay hydrated afterwards and use paracetamol to bring my temperature down if I felt hot, but I've been absolutely fine other than a sore arm.

Like I said, it's completely your call, and you've got to do what feels right for you, but I'd got myself into a complete state about it all and I think the disclaimer thing would have finished me off... but the midwife said they haven't been doing that for months, and most places didn't ever do it.

Best of luck making your call. I was still antsy until I had my jab yesterday, but I've felt pretty calm and reassured since Flowers

chelley123 · 18/06/2021 12:41

All of this is super helpful!! I've def decided to go for it :) thanks all x

OP posts:
Jaylou7rainbow · 18/06/2021 12:43

Would you go for it at 4 weeks ? X

baldafrique · 18/06/2021 12:46

Had my first dose in Jan a few days after I conceived (obviously didnt know at the time!). Not having my second dose until baby arrives in Sept.

SillyBry · 18/06/2021 13:03

For those that are unsure, do check out Stella Creasey's webinar - it's hugely reassuring and informative. I went from a solid "no way" to having my vaccine after it!

www.facebook.com/stellacreasy/videos/pregnancy-and-covid-your-questions-answered/2006145259541323/?extid=SEO----

I also know two women who caught covid in their 3rd trimester, which along with the possibility of a 3rd wave wanted me to be as protected as possible. My husband and daughter are in school/daycare settings daily, so I need to be safe from what they can bring home!!

@3ormoredogs You will only be given Pfizer or Moderna if you are pregnant... that's not because AZ is unsafe... but simply because in the US, they prioritised vaccinating pregnant women and so they have heaps of data on it... but they didn't have access to AZ.
You can read some of the studies if you google pfizer safety data in pregnancy - such as this: www.nejm.org/doi/full/10.1056/NEJMoa2104983
There is also a US facebook group full of mums that have been vaccinated, which is reassuring anecdotaly: www.facebook.com/groups/433459851127376/

LAR96 · 18/06/2021 13:26

after reading all these comments and doing more research I think I am going to book for my vaccine, I think I am going to wait until I see my midwife in 2 weeks time.
Thank you everyone

Wowthisisreal · 18/06/2021 23:00

@3ormoredogs I didn't have to sign anything. And babies have been born in the US and no negative side effects reported.

3ormoredogs · 20/06/2021 15:29

@SillyBry just to update. After watching the webinar and speaking to a consultant at the hospital I’m under Ive had the vaccine this morning.
It was Moderna which worried me a little as I was expecting phizer but the vaccinator was lovely and assured me she has vaccinated lots of pregnant women.

Feeling strange now, relief the decision is made but naturally a bit anxious and hoping everything will be fine.

Kaly90 · 16/07/2021 11:27

Hi, I had my first vaccine when I was about 2-3 weeks but didn’t know I was pregnant and was in two minds about taking my second dose, however with Boris’s announcement I didn’t have a choice anymore as anti vaxers would be at their peak and people would stop wearing masks that thought just terrified me and I made the decision to go for my second dose. It’s day 2 and I am feeling completely fine except for a sore arm.
The risks of getting covid outweigh the risk from getting vaccinated as after my first vaccine I had an early scan at 9 weeks and the baby is doing fine so I can’t see why would second dose change anything! Have my 12 week scan on 6th august and fingers crossed 🤞

Ladies don’t be scared weigh your pros and cons for example will you be travelling y public transport or does your work put in a position where you have to face people Or simply if you would be going back to workplace then better safe than sorry!

Wish you all the best 😇

dailygrowl · 26/07/2021 16:56

Well done OP. I had my first dose at the end of May and am due my second dose shortly. I don't live or work in environments where I have contact with many people so I was definitely low risk of getting Covid compared to friends or acquaintances who face over 100 different members of the public everyday. I'm concerned about the safety and effectiveness of any medicines I take so I researched this thoroughly before it was my turn. The 2 main vaccines used in Britain- AZ, Pfizer- are now among the most thoroughly tested vaccines in history as over 2 billion doses have been given. We know there are tiny risks of severe or fatal side effects, but you have to remember that no medicine or treatment is 100% safe- thousands die every year from taking aspirin, ibuprofen/Nurofen, and paracetamol/Anadin/Panadol too.

I had a sore arm from the jab (just felt like I had carried heavy parcels with it) but that's it. Looking forward to getting the second. With the variants causing great numbers of deaths and causing many to suffer long Covid complications, it really wasn't possible for me to avoid getting ill with/dying from/spreading Covid just by avoiding public transport or crowded places any more. The vaccine is worth it. The Pfizer and Moderna vaccines - Pfizer especially - have been taken by millions of pregnant women now with no ill effects so is definitely worth doing.

Anecdotally, it is worth avoiding strenuous exercise or tiring travel (eg long distances) for 2-3 days after taking the vaccine. That seems to reduce likelihood of uncomfortable symptoms or at least lessen their discomfort.. Keep well hydrated with water and have some paracetamol close to hand in case you need it for aches, soreness or temperatures after the jab. Get medical advice whether from your GP or local hospital if you do get symptoms after the jab that concern you.

I am 28 weeks pregnant and I am undecided about whether to have the Covid vaccine. Just wondered what other people opinions are
