After an etopic pregnancy 6 months ago. I have just found out I'm pregnant again. The doctors have referred me to the epu for a reassurance scan. I have google a scan at 5 weeks and most times you can't see much and I think that would just make me anxious. Has anyone had a scan at 5 weeks and it has actually helped there nerves.

To be honest even with a history of ectopics (I've had 2) EPUs usually won't scan before 6 weeks.

Less than 6 weeks it would depend on your hcg levels as to what they might be able to see to definitely rule out an ectopic

I thought that too, my doctor also told me it would be at 6 weeks but when they called I gave them all my dates and she asked me to come up next week. I will be 5 weeks and 2 days. They haven't given me a blood test so they wouldn't even know how high my levels are. Thank you for replying. @ivfgottwins

With my dd I had a scan at 5.5w due to a bleed and history of miscarriages. The sonographer saw a yolk sac but no fetal pole. We were told by epu that at the time if was a pregnancy of unknown location and could mean that we have either miscarried or everything was too small to see. I had bloods taken that day and needed to return two days later for a repeat where they could see that my levels were doubling as expected. I had another scan the following week where yolk sac, fetal pole and heartbeat were present.

If you're in London, the EPU at UCLH will scan at around 5 weeks if you've a history of a previous ectopic.

I decided to wait until 6 weeks as I couldn't face the risk of a scan being too early and stressing me out.

I had a scan when I hit 6 weeks but it’s mainly to determine the pregnancy is in the right place. It was tiny but we were lucky enough to see the flickering heartbeat.

Fingers crossed for you!

Hi thank you for commenting. Sorry to hear about your losses But glad everything worked out for you I was going to give them a call tomorrow just to double check I got the right dates but I think will just wait now if I can at least get some blood work done then it might help put my mind at ease. @stormelf

Hi how did your scan at 6 weeks go? Thank you for replying and I'm in the Glasgow area.

I had a scan at 6 weeks at epu and could see a tiny yolk sac but nothing else, not until another scan at 8 weeks where there was a flicker of a heartbeat.

Hope your able to see something and get all the reassurance you need. 🥰
