Induction after several spontaneous births

I have had 3 completely spontaneous births, and 2 triggered by membrane sweeps.

Now looking at being induced a week early via balloon catheter if baby hasn't appeared on their own.

Has anyone been induced for 3rd + baby? How long did it take? Also experiences of balloon please!

Hi!
I've been induced 3 times so far and one spontaneous following a sweep. Due #5 today but booked in for a likely induction next friday/Saturday.

Dc1 was induced at 42wks.
Dc2 was spontaneous
Dc3 was induced at 42wks. Didnt need the balloon or pessary, they broke my waters, contractions started as soon as I stood up and she was born 2hrs later.
DC4 was induced for size at 40wks so early for me. He took longer, again they just broke my waters but this time nothing happened and I ended up on the drip (I asked for epidural to be in first which in my case was good because I went to 4 contractions in 10mins to 6 in 10. He was born 4hrs after they got me to 4 in 10.

I'm booked to have the balloon on Friday but MW I saw weds said I probably won't need it as I'm 2cm dilated and soft. So we will see. I'll update next week if you're still waiting?

Only been induced the once due to having high bp, mine wasn't ready for birth. They started with pessary at 39+3, contractions started but tailed off. Next day another and the same. Was taken to delivery at 39+6 at 4 or 5cm and contractions had completely stopped again. Hooked up to hormone drip, arrived 7hr 38mins later. Ended up with epidural as I was seeing things on G&A, she was distressed (cord round neck) so they used vontouse to get her out quick. Dh said she was blue but I didn't see her until they'd sorted her out as I couldn't move until about an hour after birth. Next 2 were spontaneous but had to have waters broken for me. Twins were elcs. Already told my consultants if they want to bring this one early I will be going elcs over an induction.

Due to be induced at 39+1 but have mw at 38+3, do we reckon she would give me a sweep then? I didnt think to ask at my appointment.

Not sure. On my MN group some mums were told not before 40wks but they were happy to give me one at 39+4. Can only ask eh?

Definitely though my inductions having given birth multiple times before were 100% better than my first induction.

THATbasicSNOWFLAKE · 12/06/2021 12:16

Thats reassuring. I wasn't too worried until i read the info the hospital gave me which basically had a plan for inductions spread out over several DAYS

OP posts:
BurningBenches · 12/06/2021 12:21

Yup. They've said the same for me, even though I've said I've not needed balloon or pessary the last two times.

They said i need to go up Friday with DH and they will stick balloon in and we can go home.
Then back Saturday, if nothing happens in the meantime, to have waters broken. H has to drop me off, loiter locally and wait to hear what the plan is, then either I go to delivery suite to have waters broken or onto a ward to wait for a space. I'm telling myself if I'm on a ward waiting its the closest thing to a rest ill have this pregnancy 😂 every cloud and all that.

THATbasicSNOWFLAKE · 12/06/2021 12:34

Ive been told cant go home with balloon in!

My last two births were started with a sweep and my waters apparently could have been broken at the sweeps so hopefully i wont need the balloon anyway

My main concern is being left waiting for hours because its busy tbh Blush

I had 3 spontaneous births and had to be induced on my 4th, I had the pessary though, had that at around 4pm had to stay lay down still for an hour (I think) and when I was allowed to stand up my waters went straight away and pains started not long after, he was born just before midnight. None of my labours have been particularly long though.

HBGKC · 12/06/2021 13:04

OP how many weeks were you with the labours that were started via membrane sweeps?

BurningBenches · 12/06/2021 13:05

@THATbasicSNOWFLAKE yeah, I'm being induced due to being 41. And here they induce by 41wks and so i got 19th in my head as she will be here by then, especially as my consultant said between 40-41 but in typical my trust style theyve booked me dead in on 41wks. Which is fine but means it could be later than 19th. I also hate that other trusts induce earlier for over 40s, it makes me wonder who is right re the risk of going over. They were really relaxed about me being just 40 last time and I was only offered induction before 42wks due to his large size.

Based on DC4 where I arrived and was sent home as too busy already there is a good chance of having to wait around.

THATbasicSNOWFLAKE · 12/06/2021 13:07

@HBGKC a couple of days before and on due date

HBGKC · 12/06/2021 13:08

If this is your sixth birth, and two have been successfully triggered by a sweep, I'd have thought your chances are high for an induction working pretty swiftly.

I had to be induced at 37.5 weeks with my 8th child due to obstetric cholestasis. My previous births had all been spontaneous, smooth and quick. My consultant thought she'd just need to break my waters to start me off, as my body clearly knew what to do, and she was right.

Hopefully the same will be true for you, and a sweep and waters breaking at 39 weeks will be all it takes.

THATbasicSNOWFLAKE · 12/06/2021 13:10

@BurningBenches i am being induced due to size of baby

Have you been taking raspberry leaf tea or anything?

OP posts:
THATbasicSNOWFLAKE · 12/06/2021 13:12

Fingers crossed @HBGKC, its good to hear others positive experiences!

Feeling a bit stressed at thought of days in hospital as i have only ever spent one night and that was with dc1!

OP posts:
BurningBenches · 12/06/2021 13:36

@THATbasicSNOWFLAKE yes and shagging. I'm usually OK once in labour its pretty quick. Its the starting off that I need help with

THATbasicSNOWFLAKE · 12/06/2021 13:50

Are you drinking tea or taking capsules? Ive bought capsules but somehow feel nervous about taking them! Have been having some strong BH for around a week now which i hope is a good sign.

OP posts:
BurningBenches · 12/06/2021 14:03

The tea. The hot tea mama stuff.

I get lots of BH overnight but not so much during the day. Its so frustrating. I just carry my babies longer than most I reckon, but I'm just ready now!

THATbasicSNOWFLAKE · 12/06/2021 14:05

Im not ready yet, i have too much to do Blush but id rather go myself before induction lol

NameChange74567 · 12/06/2021 14:19

I was induced with DC3, but I was given a pessary, and it went really quickly. Inserted at 4pm, back ache and cramp started a few hours later. Contractions started about 8pm, I was moved to labour ward just after midnight and was 3cm dilated. DD was born at 1.45am.

THATbasicSNOWFLAKE · 12/06/2021 14:22

@NameChange74567 my hospital have said i cant have a pessary because i have already had several babies!

OP posts:
BurningBenches · 12/06/2021 14:55

@THATbasicSNOWFLAKE I only did my hospital bag at 39wks. Id really like to go spontaneous too but my earliest and only spontaneous was 40+9 so don't much like my chances

THATbasicSNOWFLAKE · 12/06/2021 15:05

My earliest is 38+2 but that was over 10 years ago and the three i have had since then were all near enough due date!
