Fungal Skin Infection Pregnant

I’ve had this sore on my leg for about a month, I’ve been back and forth to the gp and finally one said that it looks like a fungal skin infection, it’s on the outer part of my right thigh but then I went to the drs I found another sore on the inside of my left thigh, I was given cream but says on the leaflet that it can’t be used in pregnancy so will have to ring back on Monday, I’m worried that it’s a fungal infection, has anyone had it before in pregnancy? Was all okay? How did you get rid of it safely and naturally because I’m not using that cream!
I’m also worried too that because there’s on on the inside of my thigh and my underwear is brushing past the sore and what if it spreads now down there?
GP is closed now for me to call and ask what can I do so thought I would ask if anyone else has had a skin infection while pregnant? Thank you!

I have Tinea Versicolour which is a fungal infection of the skin!
I had it well before getting pregnant, it went away for many months and since being pregnant it's back with vengeance, I've been told everything will be fine & not to worry about baby. It's all over my neck, shoulders, arms, back, inner thighs and near my underwear line - and it's not spread further into that area.

Topical imadazole creams are safe for use in pregnancy I have been told! They haven't fully gotten rid of mine (as I don't use it daily, I forget) but they've made it less noticeable.

I also use diluted tea tree oil and apple cider vinegar which helps lots too!

Hopefully this helps, it may not be the same condition but I know how annoying it is and scary whilst pregnant! Xx

@edgylemons thank you for replying!
I was given daktarin 2% but all I’ve read is that it’s not safe and that freaks me out 😩
I’m so scared that it’ll effect my baby but I’m equally as scared that the fungal infection is harming her too! I know I’ve told that it won’t by drs but still worries none the less!
I have one sore the size of a 5p on my outter right thigh and then a really tiny one like the size of a pin tac on my inner left thigh so I only have the 2 but I’m just really scared I don’t know what to do! Worried it’s going to keep spreading too, sorry just worried, first baby as you can tell haha xx

I had a fungal infection in my nail. I was told that no treatments are pregnancy safe, and to use tea tree oil and vinegar… it made no difference and the nail dropped off. The finger has REALLY slowly cleared up.

I was really frustrated by the lack of safe treatments but I saw two GPs, my midwife and a pharmacist and they all said that I had to leave it to it, and we’d either treat it after pregnancy (which sounded like forever away, it turned up when I was 6w!) or it’d clear up itself.

All the inserts on all medications say that they can’t be used in pregnancy, but this doesn’t mean that they can’t. If a doctor who knew you were pregnant prescribed it to, or you bought in from a pharmacist you had told you were pregnant, you can use the cream.

I just looked up miconazol in the embryotox database and it’s the medication of choice for fungal infections in pregnancy. It’s been studied for miscarriage risk and is considered safe, even for vaginal use.

Ahh thank you both!
@TakeYourFinalPosition that’s awful that they didn’t help you at all and that was from 6 weeks!
@MySocalledLoaf thank you for looking that up for me! Sorry the pregnancy anxiety is real haha (I have spoke to my midwife about the anxiety) just worried things will effect my baby!

Hi I know it’s been a few months since there was any comments on this thread but I wondered how you had got on with the fungal infection? I’ve been to the doctors this morning and was told I have a fungal infection on my breast. I’ve been prescribed some cream but haven’t been to the chemist yet to collect it so don’t know what it’s called. The Dr said that the cream says “to take precaution when pregnant” but that it should be ok to take twice a day for a week. Just wondered if you’d managed to clear up your infection yet and if so what did you use. The Dr just didn’t fill me with much confidence saying “it should be ok” to use the cream she prescribed

I was prescribed clotrimazole 1% cream for thrush but it’s a fungal infection cream. This is quite a usual one the be prescribed for thrush in pregnancy so may be worth seeing if that could be used on your legs too? Similar story as PP that the GP said “should be okay in pregnancy” so I checked with midwife and told that it’s fine. GP’s are so scared of pregnant women 🙈 x

Oops sorry, didn’t realise it was an older thread but hopefully that’ll be of some help anyway x

I’ve just been and collected my prescription and it is Daktarin 2% like OP was prescribed. Did you use this or did you find an alternative? The pharmacist said that the manufacturer states a small amount will go into your blood stream so to use sparingly. I really don’t want to use it. I’ve got a midwife appointment next week so think I’ll put off using it and ask for her opinion. Just wondered if you did use the Daktarin or something else?
