Water birthers: what position did you give birth in?

I've had laboured 3 times in the birthing pool. First one had to get out as heartbeat was going, ended up delivering flat on my back and damaging my tailbone.
#2 and #3 I laboured and delivered in the pool, but was sort of on my back, with my feet pressed into the cavity at the end of the pool.
I'd very much like to use a more upright position with this baby. Has anyone managed to do this in a birthing pool?
With my last one I was on my knees leaning over the side of the pool and the midwife just encouraged me to lie back and put a towel under my head, so I ended up not upright at all.

Any suggestions welcome- i'm eager to hear what has worked for others!

I did much like #3 on my back (sort of floating up) with my back and feet pushing against the side.

I was labouring kneeling with my knees spread, and my arms braced on the side.

I did it kind of squatting, holding onto to side of the pool with ds.

With dd I didn't have time to get in the pool but I delivered her kneeling (on some pillows I'd hastily grabbed)

Both dc were very quick labours. I had 6 minutes of pushing with dd, ds kind of swam out in 2 pushes.

@Cupidity similar position to yours in the pool here. I had a failed water birth with dd1 where labour stopped at 10 cm and in the labour I was lying back in the pool so was determined to be more upright with dd2

Thanks for all the responses!
So I see it is possible to be more upright in the pool. Lets hope it'll work out for #4!

I was kind of on all fours I think - on my knees, leaning forward and either holding on to or leaning on the side at different points. Spent most of the time floating my front so not really able to compare to being on my back but found it quite comfortable

I laboured and had baby on my knees leaning on the side of the pool, head led on the edge. Was by far the best and easiest labour of my three

I laboured on my knees holding the side.. which was really tricky as there wasnt much to hold on to. Which then resulted in cramp in my legs while trying to push my baby out!! Water birth would be my first choice all day long x

All four were me squatting or kneeling facing the poolside with my arms over/on the side. DH beside me I think for all four. I sat back a bit with DD4 right at the end because I wanted to catch her, so was kneeling on one knee with the other foot flat on the bottom of the pool.

Lots of great advice here!
Going to write it in big in my birth plan that I just want to be upright!
