Thoughts on a postcard...

Yes because

I’m a nurse (higher risk)
I’m a nurse who has seen what covid does
I have lost colleagues
I know pregnant women are likely to be very sick
I am reassured that the pfizer vaccine is safe in pregnancy

No.

Had a chat with obstetrician yesterday. She said there isn’t lots of data either way. It is my choice. She said probably the balance currently is tipped slightly towards having it. There is information on the royal college of obstetricians and gynaecologists website:
www.rcog.org.uk/en/guidelines-research-services/coronavirus-covid-19-pregnancy-and-womens-health/covid-19-vaccines-and-pregnancy/covid-19-vaccines-pregnancy-and-breastfeeding/

Also - recent study:
www.rcog.org.uk/en/news/rcog-responds-to-new-covid-19-and-pregnancy-study/

I wanted to wait until about 20weeks as most of baby’s development would have taken place by then. Obstetrician said that sounds reasonable and to keep checking the rcog website to see if any updates around that time. I am low exposure and kids are home Ed. If my exposure was different I guess maybe my decision on timing of it (eg maybe sooner).

MySocalledLoaf · 10/06/2021 13:27

Yes

BananaHammock23 · 10/06/2021 13:28

Had it at 29 weeks, ended up in hospital a week later (unrelated!) and was extremely glad to have some protection.

Iloveyou3x · 10/06/2021 16:20

I’ve found a lot of midwives, GPs etc aren’t up to date with the most recent data. My GP told me I couldn’t have pfizer but needed AZ (which I know isn’t true as I’m also a vaccinator myself)

I believe there are 90,000 women in the us who have received vaccination and there are no safety concerns.

DinosaurDiana · 10/06/2021 16:21

Yes, absolutely. I’d want my baby to have a chance of antibodies from my body and my breast milk.

jessicakxx · 10/06/2021 16:43

I had my text today to say there are available jabs for my age group now, I'm 27. However I will not be having it till post pregnancy, I work from home so minimal social contact and I stay in most weekends

Rosieposy89 · 10/06/2021 17:30

I had my first one a week ago at 24 weeks. I was going to wait until baby was here but the Indian variant and rising cases forced my hand. I figured getting Covid in third trimester was a far greater risk to baby and I than a vaccine. We overcame infertility to get here so not taking any chances!

Peach01 · 10/06/2021 17:34

No. I'm happy to keep myself safe for the next few months until baby's here.

Ednadidit · 10/06/2021 17:38

I had my first dose at 20 weeks. I work in a secondary school in the north west - I just couldn’t take that chance. I also know someone who caught it in her third trimester and that was quite enough evidence for me. It’s a very difficult and personal choice.

SohoOrigami · 10/06/2021 17:51

Yes, at 29/35 weeks. There's evidenced risk of Covid in pregnancy and no evidence of harm from the vaccine. I've two older children in separate childcare settings, a DH working out of home, and go to hospital appointments every two weeks so shielding not an option. Feel really relieved to have had it and feeling a lot better about going into the hospital for birth with some protection against Covid.

I also think it's awful that pregnant women had to wait for their age group and weren't prioritised as soon as the guidance changed - I think every pregnant woman should have been given the option to be fully vaccinated by the third trimester, or as soon as possible if already in it. But that's another thread!

WoMandalorian · 10/06/2021 18:27

Yes! Had mine at 20 weeks and waiting on the second.
I was going to anyway if it was recommended but then I saw the statistics for stillbirth and premature birth were higher for women who caught Covid, and since my DH works in a city hospital and my children are young and in school/nursery I didn't want to risk it.

French2020 · 10/06/2021 18:58

Yes, I had moderna yesterday at 14 weeks.

misskatie90 · 18/06/2021 11:01

I'm 13 weeks and have decided against having it. I will have it when baby is born. I just can't take the risk, I'm extra careful wearing my mask and take hand gel everywhere with me. Women who have got covid while being pregnant..there's no data to show this effecting the baby. That's enough for me.

GummyBear91 · 18/06/2021 11:39

I wasn't going to but the most recent evidence has changed my mind. I was adamantly against it before.

My first dose is on Wednesday and being 26w I'll have enough time to have the second before she arrives. If I was later in pregnancy I would probably wait but I've decided the risk of Covid is higher to her than the vaccine.

It's up to you, don't feel pressured either way. I felt intensely stressed before making the final decision knowing I've weighed it up in my mind fully and with my husband too.

Tootle10 · 18/06/2021 11:42

@misskatie90 There is data that shows an increased risk of premature birth and stillbirth if you have Covid whilst pregnant. I'm not trying to change your mind in terms of the vaccination but just wanted to make you aware that the evidence so far suggests that covid in pregnancy does come with increased risks to the baby (although it's also fair to say that the absolute risk remains low).

I have booked my vaccine for next week when I will be 15 weeks pregnant, but I have two other children who are in school / nursery and so don't feel that I can protect myself from the risk of catching covid with rates currently increasing and at 37 I am also at an increased risk for adverse outcomes. For me, I think that the benefits of vaccination outweigh the risks.

Somatronic · 18/06/2021 11:45

I would get the vaccine as I'd be nervous of Covid placentitis if I didn't.

Lavinia321 · 18/06/2021 11:50

I had it. No side effects for me and DS was born and appears to be perfectly healthy. I didn’t manage to get the second jab done before he was norm but it was nice to feel I had some protection.

I had a c section and a day later breathed in some of my own saliva and had to cough about 3 times. Those three coughs were absolutely horrendous, there is no way I would want to risk contracting covid at that stage.

Terriblecreature · 18/06/2021 11:56

Personally I wouldn't if I was offered it when I was pregnant. Baby now 14 weeks. Although I did get the moderna vaccine 2 weeks ago and it messed up my breast milk supply. I am regretting getting it done as I am now paranoid as to the long term effects this vaccine has of that is what it has done to my body so quickly after having it. I have raised a yellow card.

Personally if I was pregnant I would be isolating as much as possible rather than get the vaccine.

I am very pro choice btw this is just imo

LCF2021 · 20/06/2021 22:22

Finding myself so torn with this vaccine decision. I’m 33 weeks and actually booked in to have the jab this week but I keep going back and forth on it. I’ve read so much and spoken to my midwife and although I appreciate the large numbers of women who have had it in the US and found no issues the lack of data on child development later down the line (because it’s so new) is what is making me question it.
I’m still WFH so not exposed in a workplace. Then I start thinking that with things opening back up I’d really like to enjoy the last few weeks of it just being me, my DH and DS before baby arrives and get out and about a bit more.
I’m indecisive at the best of times, I just wish there could be more data about potential risks of the vaccine or even if professionals could outline the plausibility of risks. Such a tough one.

SouthwestSis · 20/06/2021 22:48

Had my first vaccine whilst pregnant and will be getting my second. Covid is so risky for those in the 3rd trimester and I want to make sure I give the jab time to work before I get there to protect me and my baby. Looking at the covid rates in my area today they are now as high as they were in February!

AdriannaP · 20/06/2021 22:49

Yes 26 weeks now, had both doses

Christmasbird · 20/06/2021 22:51

If you're not allowed lip filler or botox, alcohol ect then no. Of course not.

There is tons of data on it: women who had covid in their third trimester have an increased risk of still birth, pre-term birth and hospitalisation. In Brazil lots of pregnant women are dying. Covid can be very serious for pregnant women.
