6.5 mm NT scan- support needed

Hi there,

We had our 12 week scan yesterday where I was 11+6, which showed baby had an NT measurement of 6.5mm. Obviously this is really high.
We’re waiting for the results of the initial blood tests & then we’ve been offered NIPT which we’ll take.
I just wanted to know how other people have experienced this situation who also had a NT of around 6.
I’ve resigned myself to the fact that the likelihood is not great.
Thanks!

@Sleeplessem definitely!! We’re going to mull it over this weekend & decide for sure but we’re feeling a bit better & more positive!

Aww that’s amazing. I bet you were so relieved.
Our next scan is at 16 weeks. Will keep you posted!! X

@Guest2491 the CVS stats are a little skewed. There is a risk of miscarriage and they obviously have to tell you this so you can make an informed decision but we were also told that in the majority of cases where a miscarriage occurs there was already a life limiting factor for the baby. I'm not suggesting this justifies any risk but it's not as simple as connecting CVS with high risk.

We had a CVS within 24 hours of the high NT. Given how high the NT was, we didn't want the ambiguity that comes with NIPT and wanted access to accuracy + the full microarray. We had it done at UCLH FMU with an amazing consultant and also had two scans (vaginal/abdominal) at the same time where there were able to check for any other markers. I didn't find it painful. I was extremely anxious previously and had to concentrate on breathing to stay still. I basically closed my eyes and held my husbands hand till it was over. He watched it all!

I'm currently 35+5 and officially got signed off from consultant care yesterday. I hope you get good news too (or as much good news as they can give you without making promises they can't keep)

@milkshakeandchips5 we’re thinking the same thing I.e wanting definite results plus the micro array. Still absolutely terrified.
Hoping we can have a chat with the consultant on the day & a scan beforehand...

So happy for you! We’re trying to stay positive but it’s a tough time xx

Hi @Guest2491

Just wanted to share my experience, although it’s not the same I do think it’s important to share (not to try and scare you at all though as every experience is different)

We had a high NT reading at 11 weeks. We were asked to come back a week later as technically we weren’t in the right time frame for them to be doing NT measurements. We went back and they said that the measurement looked normal at 1.8mm. We had the combined test and came back low risk for all 3 trisomy’s.

At our 20 week scan loads of markers for Edwards was noticed and we sadly needed to TFMR. Even though the NT was normal and the combined came back low risk. I think it’s definitely wise to have a CVS or amniocentesis just to be sure as it’s a diagnostic test rather than a screening.

Wish you all the best, keep us updated xx

Thank you all for sharing your experiences and support. Unfortunately following a consultant scan baby is too poorly to continue the pregnancy. This weekend we’ll be admitted to hospital to have baby & say goodbye.
Take care everyone. Sending love x
