Empty sac

Hi all, yesterday I was 7+1 weeks pregnant, went for a early scan to find out my sac is measuring 6+4 weeks and it was empty, nothing but a black hole, I've got to go back next week for another scan to be 100%, has anyone been through this and can tell me what happens next, I have come to terms that I have miscarriaged but not fully as I haven't had any bleeding yet, I have all my pregnancy symptoms which makes it even worse, im just all over the place atm, the sonograoher wasn't very helpful and also didn't even do an internal to double make sure, I guess I just need a little advice on what I should expect 😭💔

Well, I am no expert but having read previous threads on here, I'd say that it could easily go either way. Lots of people seem to have problems with the early scans, as sometimes it just isn't possible to see enough, but later scans show the baby at the right measurement even if the sac seemed empty before. However, for some people, it has been a lighted ovum or a missed miscarriage. Unfortunately, I think you'll just have to wait. The waiting part is so awful, isn't it? I'm in a bit of a waiting game myself at the moment, and it's horrible.

I find it odd that they wouldn’t double check with an internal scan. All scans I’ve had at that gestation have ended up being internal and you get a much clearer idea of what’s going on. Hoping by next week it’s better news for you.

Sending love @Emmy93 the waiting is so rubbish. This happened to me twice. The first time it was a missed miscarriage and I had bleeding for about 3 weeks then D&C. The second time it happened we went back in a week and all was well. My little boy is now two. The first time I was in total despair, but the second time it happened, I was determined to do something positive each day to pass the time. That really helped. Like sorting clothes to go to charity shop, donation to a food bank etc. It didn’t change the outcome but it helped pass the time and was a distraction from my anxiety. Take care. So sorry you're going through this OP- I had this 3 months ago. Went for scan at what I thought was 6w2, dated 5w5 by sac size but nothing in sac- not even a yolk sac, totally empty. The sac continued to grow, albeit slowly and I had a further private scan which still showed empty and then I phoned EPU who scanned me again twice about 10 days apart. By that point I was 8 weeks and sac was still empty. I had a d and c at 10 weeks because nothing had started to miscarry naturally and I was in a state waiting for it to happen. I am v pleased I had the d and c which was done under general anaesthetic. I had 5 days off work including the day of the surgery and minimal bleeding after. I fell pregnant again within a month of surgery and am now 10weeks- heartbeat seen at 9w scan and praying all goes well until 12 wk scan.
If you are very certain of your ovulation dates because you were tracking and doing OPKs etc then it is unlikely to be good news in my opinion and you should prepare yourself because by 6 weeks they would expect to see a yolk sac and fetal pole. I hope I'm wrong though and hope the wait for the follow up scan goes as fast a possible. I remember how awful the wait between all the scans was. x

@Emmy93m yes I have also had this today
Went for a 7.5 wk scan but they measured me 5 1/2 weeks - they could see yolk sac but fetal pole seen so I need to have another scan next week
They said maybe I ovulated later? I ovulated in 26 Apr which is 6 weeks so maybe that could be right but I think I may be clutching at straws as you usually date from period
I had sore breasts up until this weekend and now not much so I guess it’s a waiting game

@Emmy93 what day is your next scan - I have one booked for Friday - I spoke to EPU today and they said sometimes there is a 2 week lag when working out how many weeks you are - I am trying to be positive but deep down I think it will be another miscarriage 😢 xx

Thank you all, im just going with the flow for now as I'm not 100% sure on ovulation as didn't temp or do opks, and my appointment is on Tuesday so 5 days of not knowing 😔

I know deep down that mine has ended as they couldn't even see a yolk sac 😭 just the sac measuring a few days behind, but my fingers are crossed for you 🤞 I'm hoping you get dome good news seeing as you do have a yolk sac 🤞

I think mine has ended as have zero symptoms now - feel so gutted xx

My sac was still empty and measuring 6+6 instead of 8+1 so I lost it 😔 I've had 4 tablets to start the bleeding process 😢 xx
