Pregnancy line darker than control

Hiya, I took a pregnancy test (I'm around 6 weeks maybe slightly less) and the pregnancy line is A LOT darker than the control line.

Is this a normal thing to happen? Is it just super dark because I'm 2 weeks past my period? I'm worried I'm pregnant with twins Grin

Yeah it's probably just because you're 2 weeks past when your period is due.

Garman · 08/06/2021 13:17

Oh yeah I see it's a first response, I got a bfp at 8 days dpo on them, at 6 weeks it'd definitely be that strong.

It happens with some tests even early on.
These home tests are not an indicator of muliltiple pregnancy so don't worry about that too much. As you are testing when your period is already 2 weeks late, a dark test line is to be expected.

Cogratulations. Check your local hospitals website for a midwife self referral page, if they don't have one call your GP.

Oh that's good, Thankyou!

I already knew I was pregnant from around 9dpo but accidentally threw the test away so took the second one in the pack to put away in the drawer (some people find it gross keeping pregnancy tests sorryGrin) and saw how dark the line was and let google scare me Blush

It wouldn't be the end of the world if I was having twins, but 3 under 2 isn't ideal Grin

I tested a week after my period was due and the test line was a lot darker than the control line. I had a scan last week at 10w3 and there is definitely only one baby in there

LittleMissNaice · 08/06/2021 13:34

Oh yeah, at least three in there I'd guess. Grin

Only joking, all of mine were like that as I waited to test. Only a singleton each time. Congratulations Flowers

Took a few tests on a day of expected period and had very dark lines. They were darker and thicker than control lines. The baby is singleton

On my last pregnancy, I took a FRER the day my period was due and the test line was already slightly darker than the control. Healthy singleton.

FRER are very sensitive. They can pick up a HCG concentration from 6miu and by 6 weeks you are probably already in tens of thousands.

I have twins... I would happily have another set because they are just so awesome (I am due our 6th atm tho so probably a tad crazy lol).
I had no idea they were twins until a scan at over 7wk, you certainly can't forget as they get big though.
Good luck with the pregnancy.

L1ttleb1t · 08/06/2021 14:56

Yes when HCG is very high the test line steals some of the dye from the control line. But it's not a quantitative test so no way to know if it means twins.

miltonj · 08/06/2021 15:49

Mine was like that and deffo didn't have twins! Some tests have some dye in them and also these tests are incredibly sensitive picking up a week before period is due so it makes sense that it would be pretty dark 2 weeks after. Although mine was this dark at 4 weeks so who knows!
