7 weeks pregnant MISCARRIAGE??

So I posted a few days ago to say I had brown discharge and I'd had a scan and they sac had grown, the yolk sac was there and everything looked OK. We're now on day 9/10 of the discharge sometimes it looks a bit bloody, sometimes dark brown, sometimes light brown. I have an almost full feeling down below all the time and feel like I need to wee then go and not much comes out, almost like a uti but without the burning feeling. I am feeling very very sick my mouth is so watery. I went back to EPAU today because I wanted a blood test to see if my hcg levels have gone down (I'm 90% sure I'm miscarrying) they wouldn't do one, instead the Dr did an internal examination and said my cervix is closed, there's no active bleed and there is just a browny coloured mucus up there. She also said the pain I am feeling could be related to an infection so took 3 swabs, she said the pain and things doesn't seem to be associated with the pregnancy but obviously they can't say for sure it won't turn into a full blown miscarriage. I have another scan booked in for 11 days time to see if there has been any progression. Has anybody else been through this? I'm so drained 😩 TIA x

I don't understand why they wouldn't let you test your hcg levels?

Moonshine11 · 07/06/2021 20:44

Ring your GP tomorrow as ask for your bloods done. I also don’t get why the hosp wouldn’t do them.
Did they not offer an internal scan?

ImmyMc · 07/06/2021 20:50

I am the same. Still waiting for the scan - 7 days to go. It's so frustrating.

LunaDreams · 07/06/2021 21:01

I went through something similar around 8 weeks pregnant. Neither EPU or GP would do my bloods to see what my HCG levels were doing when I thought I may be is miscarrying. I can't remember their reasoning why they wouldn't now as so much else was happening. I had so, so much brown and pink spotting in early pregancy, and have continued to do so intermittently into my second trimester...no one has ever really explained why and I have been told so many times 'some women bleed throughout pregancy' I could scream!

I'm now just shy of 24 weeks though so I want to reassure you it doesn't always mean a miscarriage. I do remember how distressed and alone I felt with it though so my heart goes out to you. Unfortunately often the only thing you can do is wait for that repeat scan.

Wishing you all the best x

Amyy44 · 07/06/2021 21:09

Thankyou for replies.
I did not take in the real reason why they wouldn't do bloods something about it the sac and everything it still there like it was when I had the scan on Thursday then doing bloods wouldn't tell them anything.
They cannot offer me another scan until the 17th as there has to have been 14 days between them, they said even if they were to do the scan the day before on the 16th and the pregnancy had "failed" they wouldn't be able to do anything to help me until the 17th because of this 14 day rule.
As I said the Dr said my cervix is closed and it's not an active bleed but tonight I had about 20 minutes of bad cramps, they have eased now and still blood when i wipe eventhough the Dr said it was just brown mucus.
I just feel so drained, they told me to do a pregnancy test yesterday which I did and was a strong positive. They just keep saying unless I am bleeding clots and in severe pain then i just have to wait it out as it could go either way. I've just had enough now though I've sort of accepted that this pregnancy is over and now I just want it all to be done so I can move on 😔

Thankyou so much for this reply. I have about 10% of hope left but it goes down with every day that passes 🤞❤️

@Amyy44, yep, exactly the same as you - cramping and constant bleeding.

HmmmmmmInteresting · 08/06/2021 17:22

I think it's mean of them not doing something simple like a HCG test which could help set your mind at ease.

kidneynewname · 08/06/2021 17:35

Hi @Amyy44 Just read your OP and wanted to give you some reassurance. Below does go into a bit of detail on my miscarriage symptoms so please don't read if this will trigger you.

I have had bleeding which was a miscarriage and bleeding which was a good pregnancy and my DS is sitting next to me now.

My miscarriage started off as light pink spotting over 3-4 days and got redder and redder. In that time I did a pregnancy test that was very faint (had been a strong positive and would have been around 6 weeks). EPU did a scan which showed empty sac and a day later I miscarried. Only when the bleeding got very heavy did I experience pain abdominal pain.

When I got pregnant with my son some months later, I also had some spotting which was brown/dark red and on day 4 I went to EPU. Clear heartbeat and all looked ok. Sonographer said brown discharge is very normal in early pregnancy and not to worry as old blood. To only return if the blood turns bright red and volume increases. After a total of 14 days it was like a tap turned off and it stopped.

I'm now 7 weeks pregnant with number two and had a reassurance scan due to health conditions. All looked ok and without prompting the sonographer said 'so you may have some brown discharge: that's fine and may go on for a week or so. Come back in if it turns bright red. Also you may have some abdominal pain which is completely normal and just everything starting to stretch out (not sure if this is due to it being baby 2)'.

So I think the fact that it's light and brown means it's totally normal. Cramping may just be things stretching out. But the worst thing for you at this point is to stress. So try to relax, the doctors don't seem worried and perhaps book yourself in for the 17th regardless so you can get some further reassurance. Flowers

It's driving me mad now 😩 it's still going on, about an hour ago I had a small gush of blood whilst in the shop of all places 🙄 ran home, wiped and it stopped now it's gone back to brown so I rang EPAU again and they just said unless I'm in a lot of pain or there's big clots, (which there wasn't there was a tiny one not even as big as my little finger nail) then to just continue to wait for the scan next week 🤷‍♀️

Thankyou for your reply. I have the smallest scrap of hope left still although as I just said to the other lady I've just had a small gush of blood which stopped as quickly as it started and now I'm back to reddish brown colour when I wipe 🤷‍♀️ ive heard so many positive stories I just hope mine is one of them although I'm starting to really doubt it will be now xx

I know it's easy to say but do try not to dwell on it. Honestly, a miscarriage is going to be a lot more than this (I was changing sanitary towels hourly for days). Brown blood is total normal and it doesn't sound like you've had much red blood at all.

Keep thinking positive! Is there an EPU that is perhaps slightly further away that you can self refer to? Or as others have said, ask your GP for blood test?

That's what the nurse said on the phone she was like "you'll know if it's a miscarriage" but it doesn't make me feel much better 😬 I have rang my Dr's today and been waiting for a call back from the GP since around dinner time doesn't look like they're getting back to me anytime soon. I don't think there is another EPU anywhere near me I'd probably have to drive for miles x

Thankyou, me too although I aren't very positive I always think the worst! I've still got no pains I feel absolutely fine, no more gushes of blood it's just brownish red when I wipe after a wee

@Amyy44 I don't know why our EPUs are so useless compared to everyone else's. I went to the GP and he signed me off and told me to rest, but he still didn't take any bloods!

It's ridiculous isn't it. They told me to ring them if it got worse, obviously after that gush I rang them and they said oh ring us if it gets worse 🥴 I understand the can't rescan me yet but all I'm asking is a blood test 🤷‍♀️ they did a urine test yesterday and said I have lots of pregnancy hormones still and that's about it xx

@Amyy44 it's all flooding back to me now.

As well as brown spotting I did also have lots of pink, sometimes with very small pinky/red clots (tiny though...almost looked like tissue). I did have lots of cramps (again, have done throughout my pregancy) although they were never enough to take more than 1 paracetamol every now and then.

I rang so many people to try and do bloods or scans and kept getting told to wait the 2 weeks, and to come back if it started to fill pads. I was even given a miscarriage leaflet at one point 😔. I was signed off with stress/anxiety as was so upset by it all but no one would do anything else so I'm afraid to say I think you will just have to wait. It was one of the hardest things to deal with and like you I had given up all hope of it being a viable pregancy.

Eventually I just accepted that worrying about it won't change the outcome in any way so just had to accept that it was out of my hands and actually felt a bit better after. I ended up going to a private scan on day 12 of the wait as my partner wasnt allowed to the EPU one and I couldn't face getting the bad news alone. Very fortunately the private scan went well and is probably one of the happiest moments of my life to date seeing that little bean with a HB on the screen.

Obviously none of us can give you the reassurance or answers that you want and need, and I don't want to give you false hope but just take it a day at a time and try and keep busy. It is a horrible wait but you cannot control whatever is happening.

Do keep us posted on how you get on. Sending hugs x

Thankyou that's such a nice message 🤗I get cramps every now and again also but same as you one or two paracetamol usually does the trick and according to the Dr I'm imagining it's in my stomach and it's actually in my pelvis 🙄 it's really strange because today is the best I've felt all through these 8 days physically and mentally eventhough I had that gush earlier I somehow feel like everything's going to be alright, can't put my finger on what it is but I just feel a bit more positive 🤷‍♀️I will.keep you posted, I guess I'll know one way or another some day soon. For now things seem to have settled 🤞 xx
