7 week scan experiences

Hi all, I’m having my 7 week scan next week (ivf pregnancy), feeling increasingly nervous as time goes by.

What did you see in terms of sizes and heart rates? Just want to know what to expect and what to ask about if anything looks untoward. I’ll be 7w1 at the scan next week

The baby was basically a blob, a blob with a visible beating heart! It’s pretty amazing!

They told me everything and talked me through it all so I didn’t have any questions to ask, they did tell me heart rate and size etc but I can’t remember as few years ago now!

Mine was pretty quick, baby liked like a little bean and could see the heartbeat flickering also. I was given the measurements (measured 6 days behind but caught up eventually).
I was discharged from fertility clinic that day and told to go to GP. I think I was only in for a total of 15 minutes altogether. All quite emotional and fast.
I got a LOT of photos away. I think because I was so nervous about a missed miscarriage the nurse felt sorry for me and ended up taking loads

Like the other ladies mine was very quick (about 10 mins in total).

The consultant told me at the start that they wouldn’t say anything for a minute or two whilst scanning so he could check everything first and then tell me the news. I found that very reassuring as if he had just gone in and not said anything I would have panicked.

Baby looks like a blob and they do point out the flickering heartbeat. I struggled to see it but hubby reassured me it was there.

I didn’t get exact measurements, just a estimated due date from which I could work backwards and do my gestation

I was then discharged from the fertility clinic and told to call the general maternity midwife line as soon as possible and before 12 weeks.

I only got given one photo but one was still lovely to have

@llol031 I think my measurements were on my scan pic, maybe yours were there?
I measured 6.3mm so worked at 6+1, although I was 7 weeks exactly. I got worried and booked a private scan for a week later and measured exactly 8 weeks at that scan

Thank you! So you weren’t given exact measurements or just can’t remember them? Sometimes I think the less info the better, I know there is more to early scans but I think just seeing the heartbeat will be reassuring!

@willithappen that must have been worrying, measuring behind. Seems to be quite common, even in ivf pregnancies which should really be exact on dates

Really keen to see that everything is ok with the little bean, happy to hear all your experiences!

Oh thanks for the heads up I didn’t realise measurements were on the scan 🙈 I’m 18 weeks now but that’s good to know for my next scan 🤣 and I might go back and check the others now too lol

Think I was 7+2 at mine but I worked that out from the EDD

Good luck with your scan. What you see will depend on whether it's a vaginal or abdominal scan. I had a TV scan today at 7 weeks (in EPU after bleeding) and saw a tiny baby outline and beating heart. I was told the measurement was 9.9mm and measuring 7 weeks 1 day.

I had a TV scan at 7wk 3 day and saw a lil shrimpy shaped baby.

As everyone else said, they often don’t show you or say anything until they’re happy.
They checked my ovaries, and I also got given a sheet with the measurements on. Measurements at 7wks can be quite vague as a mm either way can move you a day forward or back etc
