33 weeks - spotting after urinating?

Morning everyone! I'm not sure if I need to ring midwife/GP/FAU or just sit on this (I have a consultant appointment tomorrow) but I've just got up for my first wee of the day and got quite a bit of spotting fresh blood when wiping. I'm fairly certain the spotting is coming from the urethra.

I have had a bit of a headache over the weekend but checked my bp yesterday and it was normal.

My natural inclination is to wait and speak to the consultant tomorrow, unless someone comes along and tells me this is an emergency situation for some reason?

@JewelGarden do you mean the spotting is coming from your vagina, rather than urethra? Just asking as not sure how you’d know it’s coming from your uterus, could be the cervix? I’ve had spotting on a few occasions during pregnancy when wiping, and mine has been cervix related as I have a polyp. Your cervix can be more vascular in pregnancy, so more easily irritated, however both time’s I’ve had spotting (on and off for 5-14 days) I also had a bacterial infection (once BV and once thrush) so worth doing a swab to rule those out. I would probably call triage and let them know, and mention about your consultant appointment. I was under consultant care too and when I had an appointment coming up triage would always say to wait, but it’s still worth making them aware and seeing what they think is best x

Thanks for your help! No I think it's coming from the urethra, I weed on a bit of loo roll and the blood was there, but the discharge from my vagina was clear so I'm thinking UTI or something possibly? I have so many numbers in my notes it's like I have no idea who is actually appropriate to ring! I'll probably give the unit a call and hopefully they'll let me wait until tomorrow.

If you're quite confident that its coming from urethra then probably a UTI. BUT a UTI that is casuing bleeding is quite a nasty one and they can get very aggressive when pregnant. You do not want it to get into your kidneys. So you definitely need to phone someone today. If not pregnant then it would be GP.

If you are not 100% sure then phone the unit. And they will want to see you. I'm quite sure they won't take bleeding lightly. They would also be able to test your urine at the same time (for basic indicators) and get a doctor to prescribe the antibiotics.

I know why you don't want to, I'm always the same. Time hassle, I live bloody ages away from triage etc but don't play about with a UTI (I had my first at the very beginning of this pregnancy and by the time I'd left it a day or two to see if it was anything I was in bloody agony, feverish etc. It wasn't fun).

Thank you @Muststopeating I rang the maternity unit there and they didn't seem concerned because baby is moving ok and I'm not in any pain, she just said to keep an eye on it and ring them back if it gets any worse. I think I might pack my hospital bag today just in case!

@JewelGarden oh I'm so sorry, in my half asleep state I read urethra as uterus! Most likely sounds like a UTI, in which case I would call your GP. I had a UTI at 20 weeks and was promptly given antibiotics. I now have at home dip tests which I bought from Amazon as I'm prone to UTIs, so now check at home any time I feel like I may have one x

@JewelGarden also not to worry you, but UTIs shouldn't be left untreated in pregnancy, so would call your GP so they can do a dip test for you and get treated asap if it is a UTI x
