I'm currently on the labour ward, unable to sleep and worried. I've had a normal, easy pregnancy then today out of nowhere my waters broke, I'm 30+2. I'm being kept in for monitoring for now. Can anyone share any experience of this?

Hope you're doing ok, OP.

fantastaballs · 08/06/2021 09:20

Thinking of you op.

BananaHammock23 · 08/06/2021 10:11

Thanks all. Not much change tbh, consultant just came round and said they'll keep me in another night. No infection which is good. But no one has any answers! My waters have broke, I'm not in labour and we don't know when I might be. I'm questioning every twinge and feeling snd feel like I'm going crazy!

Sending love and hugs ❤️❤️

@BananaHammock23 glad you’re in a nicer spot even if it is further away! Hope you’ve managed to find a fan somewhere, hospitals are always a furnace let alone in this heat! Hope all continues to go well and lots of love x

Mumsnut · 08/06/2021 14:26

I managed 8 weeks in the same position as you, but I was put on bed rest. Only allowed up for the loo and a v quick shower every day

I was encouraged to drink a lot so the waters would replenish themselves and was monitored and scanned frequently.

BananaHammock23 · 08/06/2021 15:04

Just saw your post @Lullabymummy17 - thinking of you! Mine was a full gush, lots of fluid. What was their reasoning for induction?

How are you doing Banana?

BananaHammock23 · 09/06/2021 14:37

I'm being discharged! Still no signs of labour almost 72 hours after waters have broken so they're hoping I've got a few more weeks, but estimating 7-10 days. I hate not knowing but I just have to take each day as it comes and hope that I can keep the baby in as long as possible.

Thanks for all your kind words!

That's good you have made it this far, hopefully means the baby will stay put a while longer but even if she comes now there is excellent care and its normally fine, just very stressful. Wishing you all the best. At least its nicer to be at home.

Girlmama3 · 09/06/2021 15:55

That’s great news 😀 You have an excuse to put your feet up and be waited on! I hope you hold on for a while longer x

rainbowstardrops · 09/06/2021 16:00

Great news! Just take it easy.

2018SoFarSoGreat · 09/06/2021 16:42

really great to hear this! well done, you. Now just take it easy and rest - you're going to need all the energy you can store up.

sarah13xx · 09/06/2021 18:55

Great news you’re getting out 😊 hope baby stays in as long as possible for you

Doyouwantanothercuppa · 09/06/2021 20:13

That’s really good news. I’d get a cleaner now if you can, do any shopping you need to be ready for baby online and really try not to exert yourself at all.

MissChanandlerBong90 · 09/06/2021 20:15

Really glad you’re getting to go home - hopefully you’ll be more comfortable and can get more sleep. Very best of luck xx

Theweedonkeeey · 09/06/2021 20:20

My friends waters broke at 24 weeks but she managed to keep the baby in until 30 weeks. It’s now a healthy 2 year old.

Pregnancy is a scary time even when something hasn’t gone wrong. Massive hugs for you.

BananaHammock23 · 12/06/2021 17:10

Hello! Just thought I'd check in to say I'm still very much pregnant and at home thankfully. I still feel a bit shell shocked to be honest and can't settle but trying to relax and take it easy knowing it could be any day now!

Im wondering, of those of you who have had a similar experience and managed to keep babies in for a few weeks after the waters broke - did you go into labour naturally or did you have to have induction/c section because of infection or another issue?

I know it's all a bit 'how long js a piece of string' but I can't seem to find much information on what to expect online!

Hi @BananaHammock23 well done for staying calm!

My waters went at 21 weeks and my twins arrived at 25+6. I was having twice-weekly bloods and monitoring for infection but I must have picked something up, felt unwell and a bit of reduced movement and then contractions by the time I got to hospital. It all happened very quickly from there, no time for c-section by the time we’d realised it was really happening. But there was never a suggestion that a section would have been a better option because of the infection. So based only on my experience, how you deliver shouldn’t really be affected by the early waters breaking or any infection.

In hindsight I wish I’d read more into feeling ‘off’ that day and gone in earlier but I don’t know if I could really have known. So I’d say just get checked for anything that feels unusual at all.

We had a long and complicated NICU stay but both twins are home now - one is doing ok, one is doing great. Rooting for you to keep going as long as possible but you’ve reached a good place already and having the steroids will make all the difference. Good luck!

I had a completely normal pregnancy until my waters broke at 32+5 (no idea why). They kept me in hospital for a couple of days then discharged me. I went into spontaneous labour at 35+5. Baby had jaundice and a bit of difficulty regulating his temperature but he was fine after a couple of days and we were discharged.

BananaHammock23 · 12/06/2021 19:58

Thanks @Weenie12 - so glad that your twins are doing well, I can't even imagine how stressful it must have been for you that early on!

Good to hear you had 3 weeks after the waters @user1471457757 - I hope I've got that long! Since my waters went I've been hyper focussed on every movement or sensation in case labour is about to start. It's so exhausting but im trying to relax and know that the baby will come when it's ready. My pregnancy was great up until now too - textbook! I wasn't even sick, I've been so lucky.

My waters went with DC3 at 31+5. Like you I had a couple of days in hospital and they gave me steroids and antibiotics and then discharged me as no labour. I had to go in every 3 days or so for them to put me on the CTG, is it the same for you?

Anyway nothing happened for several days and I was quite getting used to this and thinking maybe I would get to 37 weeks - but then I did to into labour and DS was born at 33+4, so 13 days after waters went.

Just try and count every day baby stays in as a bonus!
