Headaches and distorted vision

Hi guys,

I just wanted to post on here as I've been experiencing some really bad headaches and extremely distorted vision. This can occur both together and alone

My headache is excruciating and mostly in the eyes/right hand side of my head, it can last anywhere from 1 to a few hours.

The vision is what's worrying me, my eyes have been going blurry and I've been having extremely distorted vision, I've been seeing black dots, zig zags and swirls this really affects me I have to close my eyes, even then still seeing what I can only describe as weirdness. Also get really confused/distracted during an "episode"

May I add I have no other symptoms no swelling etc so I'm pretty sure I don't have preeclampsia(all Google says) plus I was at mw last week everything was good. I'm definitely going to phone GP tomorrow

I suffer from HG so dizziness is not uncommon for me I deal with it pretty much everyday (midwife has checked my urine/bloods etc and everything looks good there)

Just wondering if anyone has experienced the same, probably HG related as everything else seems to beEnvy

This sounds like migraine. It’s a good plan to see your gp though.

You need to phone midwife. It could be preeclampsia even with no other symptoms

ineedaholidaynow · 06/06/2021 14:15

How many weeks are you, and how long has this been going on?

Starburst8 · 06/06/2021 14:21

It sounds like a migraine, I suffered throughout pregnancy with these types of migraine. For me it was the imbalance of both hormones in my body... Apparently it's normal, however I do have a history with different types of migraines.
Saying that it didn't stop me from freaking out each time my vision disappeared, luckily i haven't suffered since having my baby.
Definitely get it checked out at the GP just to rule out other things.

I had something similar, I ended up phoning the hospital and being told to go up get checked over, they said it was migraines and as I haven't suffered before with migraines I didn't know what the pain was like. They gave me stronger pain killers and told me to get plenty rest, also to make sure I was drinking enough water with the heat we have been having. I would also see if you could get your eyes tested they also said to me to book an eye test just to rule it out with the vision, hope you are feeling a bit better Smile

Please please ring midwife, I won't go into details, but one symptom is enough to be ringing them.

Mammyofasuperbaby · 06/06/2021 14:36

I'd go and get checked at the hospital just to be safe. I've had these symptoms in 2 pregnancies.
The first time I had severe pre eclampsia, it developed suddenly in about 6 hours so don't think you can't have it because you were checked earlier in the week.
Second time was life threatening aneamia so again I was admitted to hospital for that.
Both of these conditions nearly killed myself and my children.
Get checked

jupitermars1345 · 06/06/2021 14:49

You should phone your maternity unit today . You don't need swelling to have pre eclampsia and it can literally happen overnight even if you was ok at last appointment.

It doesn't mean it's pe at all but it's not something to wait and see

Sweetpea12 · 06/06/2021 19:05

Best to have it ruled out I had something similar during the week and it was my blood pressure dropping. Leading up to it I started having headaches but specifically above one eye and then because I nearly fainted I was checked over by the doctor with pre eclampsia ruled out from urine test and the fact I had no swelling. Hope you get checked out and feel better soon

Pugdoglife · 06/06/2021 19:10

It sounds like migraine which can be triggered by pregnancy hormones, but definitely call a midwife or doctor just to rule out anything more serious.

endofthelinefinally · 06/06/2021 19:11

This could be pre- eclampsia and you need to be seen asap.

tentosix · 06/06/2021 19:23

sounds like an unusual version of a migraine. can't remember what its called. obviously get pre eclampsia ruled out.

AllThatGlistensIs · 06/06/2021 19:35

DO NOT LEAVE THIS! Seriously, it probably is a migraine but pre-eclampsia is incredibly serious and it must be ruled out. Contact your midwife/ labour ward this evening.

flossletsfloss · 06/06/2021 21:40

I second that you need to see someone tonight! The distorted vision alone is enough of a worry for preeclampsia. Please call your midwife tonight. Good luck.
