27 weeks - food poisoning 😫

Can anyone help with reassuring me a touch of food poisoning won't hurt my baby?!
We went to wagamamas last night and are both sick. I was worse this morning, hot and cold, awful stomach ache, very nearly sick. I've had a few episodes of diarrhoea, but not alot. Called Labour ward and they've told me to rest monitor and take fluids which I'm fine with and at the moment I just seem to have belly ache cramps, sore back (though that could be a problem I already have) and have stopped feeling so rough.

Could this mean I'm over the worst? Or does it need flushing out of me?! Baby seems to be moving fine. I'm just so cross, I triple check my food to be safe, asked my hubby loads whilst was eating. And it's still happened. Don't want my little one to be hurt. :(

Have you reported it to Wagamama too?
What did you both eat?

Duck and pork. I'm bothered by the colour of the duck but thought it was sauce inside too and it was brown and pink and piping hot. I have reported it yes. :(

Just ensure you are drinking lots of fluid and resting. It can take some time to shift food poisoning (I was ill almost 3 weeks with campylobacter several years ago).
If you get any severe cramps, babys movements reduce or you develop a high fever call the maternity assessment unit immediately.

You'll most likely be able to ride it out and feel better soon if it's a mild case though.

Sorry you feel like this OP.

I had a bad viral gastroenteritis 2 weeks ago where I had horrific diarrhoea and vomiting for about 72 hours straight complete with bad stomach cramps and back pain. I did end up going into hospital but only as I literally couldn't keep anything in me so after 2 days of no fluid my hear rate was scarily high and blood pressure very low as was clinically dehydrated.

It look me about 10 days to fully recover from it and baby is fine. As long as you're able to keep waters down just try and ride it out at home. I reassured myself that baby is in a completely separate, protected part of body to stomach or intestines so it will be nice and snug in there.

Hope you feel better soon x

If you have stopped with the diarrhea and you're not being sick, plenty of fluids to flush it out and as you start to feel better, plain foods. If, however, you are not keeping fluids in then I would say go to hospital. I had gastroenteritis at 11 weeks and they stuck me on a drip and in for 24 hours for obs.

Hope you feel better soon!

I was actually really unlucky with bugs/food poisoning in my first pregnancy. Had it once on holiday at 13 weeks and again at 27 weeks. Everything was totally fine with baby, but of course keep an eye and make sure to stay hydrated.x

Thank you so much everyone. I've still had some toilet issues but I'm hoping I'm over the worst and it's only mild.
Thank you for your comments they really help x

I had food poisoning at 15 weeks pregnant, was so so ill but baby was absolutely fine. The doctor wasn't concerned at all even though I couldn't keep anything down for about 3 days!

Sorry to hear some of your experiences!
I feel much better today and fancied a clotted cream jam scone, having had it before already. I went to aldi and consumed two small scones and realised there is nothing on the pack about it being pasteurised! Not my weekend is it Hmm

@B45291 did everything end up okay with baby? Did you have to call or go to hospital?

B45291 · 18/08/2023 00:50

Hiya, I was ok after a day or so. It wasn't too bad. I just always had a fear it would hurt my baby and I was scared. It wasn't so bad that I needed medical help either.
Rest assured she turns 2 next week and she is full of love and life! Hope you are okay x
