Low PAPP-A

Hi!
First post here. I opted for the down screening test and had my results back last week. Whilst the chance of DS is low, around 1:5000 I've been told I have low PAPP-A and have been prescribed aspirin to take until 36 weeks. Has anyone else experience this and what went on? I've got myself quite panicked about preterm labor/small baby etc and whilst the hospital have said it is just a risk factor I'd like to hear from someone else that's been through the same. Thanks so much x

I had the same in my first pregnancy, and no doubt it will be the same this time round. I took asprin up until I have birth, I had extra appointments and 2 extra scans to check the placenta flow and making sure baby was growing but everything was fine! Try not to panic x

I had low Papp-a and also had aspirin and extra scans. I think it's something a lot of people are monitored for, but from posts I've seen before it seems like it almost always doesn't cause any problems and that extra measures are just to be on the safe side. Please try not to worry - the odds are it won't affect you or the baby Smile

Yes! Had this with my first. Aspirin until 36 weeks and 2 extra scans. Baby was fine!

Thanks everyone, nice to know it's all gone well for you all. Thank you for the reassurance

Mine was on the low side in my first pregnancy (think low is below 0.4 and mine was 0.44) and this time (currently pregnancy) it is 0.31. I also have a bicornuate uterus which is a risk factor for small babies and preterm labour.
I took / am taking aspirin and had / have growth scans. Number 1 was born at 41 weeks in the MLU weighing 7lb 11oz and a home birth is planned for number 2.

Hi all I'm the same, only 26 weeks so reassuring to hear your stories. Totally panicked when midwife told me but I'm seeing so many positive stories. OP I don't have FB so I can't join but apparently there's a FB called Low PAPP-A support group that lots of ladies have found helpful. Can I ask how many weeks you all started your aspirin? Xx

spacegirl123 · 06/06/2021 15:57

*only 16 weeks! Fat thumbs lol

I had this in last pregnancy and no-one was concerned. It's apparently quite common and not making up screening anymore in many areas. I didn't have to take aspirin or have any extra scans. Baby was born healthy but was a tiny thing! I also read that low Papp a is associated with boys?

I've got low PAPP - A as well 😊 my midwife already had me on aspirin due to my bmi so i just carried on with that. I'm 33 weeks and all looks good so far, baby is scanning a bit small but still 20th centile so they're not concerned (and to be honest I think if I didn't have a high bmi then they wouldn't think baby was small - big women grow big babies 🙄)

I’m 39 weeks and have low papp-a. I had the extra scans which showed baby is fine and above average (80th percentile).
My midwife never told me to take aspirin so I haven’t done. About a month ago she said I probably should have been on it but it’s too late now and since everything is fine it wasn’t needed. Thankfully that was the case or I’d be annoyed at her.
