No weight gain at 16 weeks?

Hello, I'm 16 weeks pregnant tomorrow and I still haven't put on a single ounce of weight in fact I've most a few of my pre-pregnancy kilos. No morning sickness so it's not that. I also have low Papp-a which puts me at risk at low birth weight later in pregnancy so I'm totally paranoid that the baby isn't growing or that I'm not doing enough to nourish them. Most sites say I should be gaining weight by now. Have any of you had any experience of no / low weight gain and everything been ok? Xx

Hi @spacegirl123 we’re exactly the same - I’m also 16 weeks tomorrow. I don’t think weight gain matters too much at this point. Or I hope not! I look a touch rounder at the stomach but otherwise am so far exactly the same. I think it’s a little later that the pounds can start to pile on. I also didn’t have sickness so that doesn’t explain it for me. I’ve read others saying that not much changed for them until around 20 weeks.

Depends on your starting bmi. For those who are already overweight or obese there is no expectation that you put on weight. Currently 32 weeks pg and have lost weight since I got pregnant

Thanks @Dinosaurus86 and @Sunshinebunshine my bmi is right in the middle of normal. All I can do is eat as much as I can I guess and hope I start piling on the lb!!!

@spacegirl123 my bmi is normal too! In fact I was totally starving all of the first trimester - ate a tonne and so far has made little difference...

@Dinosaurus86 I mentioned a few weeks back to my midwife and she said baby is taking everything she/he needs first but I'll prob see weight around 15/16 weeks so I'll mention it to her next week

Yep, I lost weight the first two trimesters. Gained in the third, but only ended up a couple of pounds heavier than my booking weight. Had a 7lb 14 baby Smile

Concentrate on eating and drinking as healthily as you can manage, and take a vit D supplement.

I didn’t put anything on until week 25. My baby was 3.6kg. I don’t think you need to increase your food intake unless you’re severely underweight, like the midwife said, the baby is getting all it needs.

I'm just coming up to 11 weeks and so far have lost 2kg. My eating patterns have completely changed due to trying to keep nausea at bay, and I suppose I'm eating less over all. I have also found it really difficult to do much exercise since about week 7, so I suspect I'm losing muscle mass too. So despite looking a bit podgy in the middle due to bloating, I haven't put on any weight yet.

@TTCat39 that's a good point re muscle mass, I was pretty active pre-pregnancy and haven't really been able to keep it up so perhaps that's contributed too. Thanks girls for commenting your experience, it makes me feel a little more reassured. Xx

I was similar to you, didn't put any weight on until after 20 weeks, I remember worrying about it pre 20 weeks but ended up gaining 24lb and baby was 8lb 1, was a healthy bmi before pregnancy too.

Hi all, I'm 15 1/2 weeks pregnant and haven't yet gained any weight though my body shape has changed and belly getting bigger. I didn't have morning sickness so it's not that. I'm eating about the same as pre-pregnancy in accordance with NHS guidance (US advice differs). I was very active beforehand, running c. 30k a week, walking a lot, yoga. I'm still active but doing quite a lot less than before. My BMI has stayed at about 18.4, so just on the low side of normal, though I've been the same my whole adulthood. Could be I'm just losing muscle.

Those who hadn't gained weight by 15/16 weeks...how did you do after that?
