When did you all start experiencing Braxton Hicks and what did they feel like? xo

I can't remember with my first 2 pregnancies when I got them but with this on about 27 weeks I'm now 36 weeks and get them a lot!! They make your whole tummy go hard sometimes take your breath away they are painless abs irregular x

Ragoo · 03/06/2021 13:24

With my first around 36 weeks, actually thought I was in labour. Looking back now they weren't so bad at all.

This time, 27 weeks. Tightenings, mild pain and quite uncomfortable but not painful

sunshinecitrus1 · 03/06/2021 13:44

Thanks ladies! I am 31 weeks today (FTM) and my pregnancy apps are telling me that my braxton hicks may increase but I haven't actually experienced them at all yet so I was wondering whether this was OK Smile

Mine started quite early, about 20w. There was a definite increase in the last trimester though. Contractions only got painful a couple of weeks before birth, but weren't anything unbearable. Until labour actually kicked in - it's true that you'll just know when the real thing starts!

Mylasmummy2102 · 03/06/2021 13:50

Yeah I would say it's fine you may have experienced them but not known as such. Trust me you'll know when they get worse they are very uncomfortable x

FluffMagnet · 03/06/2021 13:55

I got them quite suddenly and regularly in the second trimester, but then nothing at all in the third trimester.

Ragoo · 03/06/2021 18:02

@sunshinecitrus1 my friend never had any until right near the end, she barely felt them. I think it's all normal Grin

sunshinecitrus1 · 03/06/2021 18:44

Thanks ladies! Sounds like everyone is pretty different Smile

Thanks @Ragoo for the reassurance Grin

I'm 34+6 with twins and haven't had any. Didnt have them with DD either 🤷🏻‍♀️
My friend ended up in hospital yesterday as she thought she was having BHs but turns out she was in slow labour!

Cotswoldmama · 03/06/2021 18:55

I got them very early on with both pregnancies. Your tummy goes really hard and tight for between maybe 10 and 20 seconds it doesn't hurt just feels a little bit uncomfortable. I didn't realise what they were at first I thought it was just the baby in an awkward position and so would rub my belly trying to get it to move. It was much later I realised they were Braxton Hicks. I got them more frequently after a long day of work walking home, I counted about 5 in a row on my 10 minute walk home!

Funauntienowmummytobe · 03/06/2021 23:36

I'm the same as @Cotswoldmama, I have had them since early in my second trimester and only found out what they were when I went in for reduced movements and the midwife was asking about it as they show on the monitor! I also just thought it was baby's position changing, nothing painful, just stomach goes hard.

sunshinecitrus1 · 04/06/2021 19:58

@Cotswoldmama @Funauntienowmummytobe I have experienced my tummy going quite hard and tight but I have just put it down to baby’s position as well. I am going to take more notice next time and see how long it lasts etc.
