6w scan

Hi all,

I’m not really sure what I’m looking for here. I’m just feeling a little lost and broken. Our first round of IVF failed in November. That was a fresh transfer. I did another full round of egg collection in January. I just did a frozen transfer and got our BFP. To say we were over the moon is the biggest understatement. At 5 weeks my beta HCG levels were 1382 which they said was excellent. I went for the 6 week scan yesterday and she said all she could see was the gestational sac. She was very honest and said things don’t look good but she said my womb was upside down (tilted uterus I believe is the more technical term) and that because of that it’s hard to get a clear picture. Although she did try for a while. She wants me to continue my pessary and injection until next week and to come back in to confirm. I’m trying not to cling on to false hope but I’ve now read how a tilted uterus could really affect an ultrasound reading. I also took two tests when I got home and they are even stronger than the first ones I took. I understand they may still give a positive result but would they be getting stronger if I was going to miscarry? I don’t really know where else to turn with these questions. My head is all over the place. I’m feeling so broken and lost.

Hello @kellsibells85 I’ve sent you a private message - I’m in the same situation x

I've a tilted uterus and at 8 weeks they could see anything. So they did a scan vaginally. Do they not have the equipment to do that? By 11 weeks my womb has tilted forward so they could do the scan over my tummy like usual but my friend had her dating scan done vaginally as well.

Couldn't see anything. They got a very clear picture vaginally though at 8 weeks

Hi, they actually did an internal scan. She was pushing and moving around for what felt like a lifetime.

Did they do your bloods to see if hcg is still doubling?

I had a miscarriage where my hcg was rising but not doubling, so they said they didn't expect the pregnancy to be viable. I was scanned at 5w, nothing at all on the scan, miscarried at 6+5. With my DC I had some light bleeding at 7w, scan showed sac and heartbeat, I was told though that before 7 weeks its not always obvious on a scan.

I would try to prepare yourself for the worst but not give up hope just yet, sending hugs.

Hi they actually didn’t do the bloods again, which is annoying. She said that wasn’t much point since they were so high last week. I’m exactly where you’ve said. I’m beginning to accept the fact that it probably won’t be the outcome we want but I’ve still got a tiny glimmer of hope 💕

I had high HCG, went to my scan where I was 6w 3 days, was told they could only see a empty sac and that it was probably a missed miscarriage, so went back 2 weeks later (after 2 weeks of torturing myself) and there was a 8w 3 day baby with a great heartbeat which we got to listen to, then had another scan at 10 weeks and again all fine and measuring exact dates.

I did set myself up for the worst though.
