Hi everyone, I’m panicking a bit and hoped someone could reassure me! I’m currently 15w6 and had my 12 week scan a couple of weeks ago. They couldn’t check for downs as baby was in a funny position but the sonographer said from what she could see, it looked fine. I had a blood test instead yesterday and was told I’d get a call if the results came back high or a letter within 2 weeks.

So at about 6pm today I missed a call from my GP and couldn’t call back before they closed. Now I’m panicking that they were calling to give me the results and I’m not going to get any sleep tonight worrying! Does anyone know who’d usually call in this situation- the hospital/midwife or the GP or could it be either?

Thank you all in advance.

I've only heard of the midwives calling... usually a midwife who is part of the screening team where you had the scan. As far as I'm aware GPs don't get involved.
Hope all is okay x

JJSS123 · 02/06/2021 20:22

I had to go in for repeat blood tests as mine were contaminated but it was the screening midwife from the hospital who called me, have you got your 16 week appointment booked? Could be something to do with that xx

GoBrookeYourself · 02/06/2021 20:23

Thank you showmorekindness (very appropriate name because you’ve put my mind at ease and I really appreciate it). I’ll call the GP back first thing in the morning, hopefully it’s nothing related. Thank you again x

JJSS123 my 16 week scan is booked for next Friday, but it’s reassuring to know it was your midwife and not GP that called. Thank you x

I think if it was something serious and they needed to contact you, no way would they have left it that late in the day and risk missing you before closing for the day

JJSS123 · 02/06/2021 20:28

It’s my second pregnancy and in both babies when I’ve seen the midwife at my 16 week appointment the midwife who I see at the doctors has always asked me what the result has come back as from the screening so I don’t think your doctors would even know! And with going back in for repeat bloods I went for my first set on the Tuesday and had a phone call to go back in on the Thursday so they look at these results quickly so I’m sure if something was up you’d of been told a few weeks ago, don’t stress. X

Never spoke to the GP about anything pregnancy-related in either of my pregnancies. They don't cross over as far as I know.

everydaysablessing · 02/06/2021 20:39

Same as above.

Midwife screening team called with screening results.

GP called when midwife requested prescription for aspirin and for prescription for iron tablets after blood test.

Try not to worry

Bizawit · 02/06/2021 20:41

Aww poor you, what a worry! If there was an issue, though, im sure it would be a midwife calling you (either your own or a specialist midwife) not the gp xxx

bluntness1001 · 02/06/2021 20:45

I had this happen, it was just them calling for another blood test.

GoBrookeYourself · 02/06/2021 20:48

Thank you everyone, you’ve helped put my mind at ease. You think the hardest thing is getting pregnant, then the hardest thing is getting the pregnancy safely out of the way and then the baby comes along and you realise there’s a brand new hardest!

Mumsnet is amazing sometimes- genuinely, thank you all so much.

I had my combined test today and was told I'd be called by a specialist midwife if results came back high risk. I wouldn't worry!

Haiyaa · 02/06/2021 21:14

Have you had your Covid jab? Could be they were calling you to book that in now that pregnant women are being offered it.

Juniper74 · 02/06/2021 21:14

Maybe calling you to book in for Covid Vaccine?
Agree that hospital much more likely to call re any concerns re pregnancy, unless something simple like an iron prescription.

bumbledeedum · 02/06/2021 21:22

GP's are completely separate to midwives and maternity services so definitely wouldn't be phoning you about downs screening. As PPs have said, there's a specialist team that would phone you via the hospital if they were concerned. Have you got electronic notes? Mine were updated on there before anyone got in touch with me.

20viona · 02/06/2021 21:23

Have you had a recent urine test? Only time my GP called after any pregnancy apts was to tell me I had a UTI which I knew nothing about lol.

8dpwoah · 02/06/2021 21:26

My screening test result letter came from a completely different NHS trust! My GP only do the referral to the midwife, all my bloods etc that are on my maternity notes aren't even on my GP record on the NHS non-maternity app. Which is pretty silly when you think about it but just shows how little crossover there is.

I suspect it's a call for covid jab or maybe your whooping cough?

GettingAlong · 02/06/2021 22:06

Maybe the person who took the test didn't know the result giver'a procedure.

I was only expecting a letter and I got a phone call to confirm it, all was fine!!

Good luck! Thanks

GoBrookeYourself · 03/06/2021 08:11

I called first thing and it was just for my covid jab Blush I feel so silly for worrying now! Thank you all so much for putting my mind at ease x
