hi, i'm new to mumsnet. I've had cystitis like symptoms and protein in my urine. I want to avoid antibiotics, am 16 weeks pregnant. Anyone got any ideas?

sometimes the need for antibiotics outweighs not wanting to take them. you should speak to the doctor

I've had antibiotics 2 or 3 times for water infections since pregnant. My doctor told me that water infections arn't very good for the baby, and cefalexin doesn't harm babies, so he said it was best to have it.

Drink LOADS of water and no caffein (the hospital told me that).

I cut out sex when I have a water infection and it goes quicker that way.

I sometimes have cranberry juice and it helps.

But overall, it's probably best to take antibiotics if your doctor says so.
