Medical exemption certificate

Hi!

Does anyone know how I get my medical exemption certificate? I'm 16 weeks and I have prescriptions and a dentist appointment I'd rather not pay for 😂

They don't send them out anymore, it's all done online. When I've collected my prescriptions I've just told the pharmacy I've got a maternity exemption and they accept it. I think they check afterwards online and if you're lying you get fined. Not sure about dentists but I'd assume it's the same sort of thing.

I got a letter through the post about 6 weeks ago but I've never had to show it anyone

Jurassiclover · 01/06/2021 12:50

I had to get a form from my midwife and send it off, then got my certificate in the post. This happened at my 16 week midwife appointment so seems it varies from area to area, worth asking your midwife

dementedpixie · 01/06/2021 12:54

Speak to your midwife as they can do the application for you

I got mine via email, although my midwife said that she wasn't supposed to send it until the 16 week scan, but she would because she's off for a bit and so I'll have a stand-in midwife between 12 and 22 weeks.

I was told that you can't claim until you've got the certificate, even if they don't ask to see it.

lilroo87 · 01/06/2021 12:59

My midwife emailed me my certificate. I've never actually been asked for a copy or to see if from anyone but it's good to have on my phone when at dental appointments or picking up prescriptions just in case.
See if your midwife can email yours over.

My GP filled out mine and told me to collect it today. I’ve had a few prescriptions that I collect from Tesco and they’ve asked to see the card and gave me a refund sheet to hand back in when it comes. I’m 9 weeks tomorrow.

RosemaryRosemary · 01/06/2021 15:47

My midwife emailed it to me after my intake appointment

OliviaL9530 · 02/06/2021 10:57

Thanks ladies!

It seems everyone has got theirs at different points in pregnancy and through different avenues.
I have my 16 week appointment coming up so I'll be sure to mention it then, they asked to see it when I was picking up my aspirin but obviously I didn't have it so I had to pay 🙄

You can get it from when the pregnancy has been confirmed. Could you phone your hv about it?

dementedpixie · 02/06/2021 10:59

I mean midwife not hv

OliviaL9530 · 02/06/2021 16:49

@dementedpixie
I've left her a voicemail but still waiting to hear back

I think they backdate them so you may be able to claim back your prescription charges so far. Keep your receipts!
I got a form to fill out and send at booking in and the certificate came by post a couple of weeks later

ChikiTIKI · 02/06/2021 16:54

Last time I was pregnant I had a Dr appt very early on to get referred for a booking in appointment at the hospital and he went and got the form from reception and filled it in himself. He is all for making sure people get their freebies. After my first child was born I got tonsillitis and he snuck 100 paracetamol on to my antibiotics prescription without telling me, because he knew I wasn't paying. Not something I agree with but it's obviously his style.

I just found out I am pregnant again and was wondering about this. I am going to look for the form online.

Ednadidit · 02/06/2021 17:46

It’s different in every area. In mine it’s all still on paper, so I had to have it sent to me to fill in, post it to the GP for them to post it to someone else and then had it finally posted to me after a whole month. Fingers crossed your area is more organised!

Holly91 · 02/06/2021 18:14

I’m 24 weeks today and randomly got mine through the post about 2 weeks ago although when I went to pick my aspirin up weeks before that I just told them at the chemist I was pregnant and that seemed to be enough lol

Flutterby8 · 02/06/2021 20:15

I was given the initial form by my midwife at my booking appointment at 9 weeks.
She completed her bit and I had to send it off.
Got a letter back with the details on within a week.
They apparently no longer send cards out, just letters which you have to scan and upload.
Midwife said it had to be done at the booking appointment so def ask.

Megan2018 · 02/06/2021 20:18

I got mine via email at booking in, I was asked for it every time.
