Sterilising pumps (Medela swing)

Hi everyone,
Before baby comes and I'm sleep deprived I wanted to learn how to sterilise the medela swing pump. We were given the pump and it's been used before by my sister in law and by a friend of hers and I read online that because of its design the swing can't be sterilised effectively. It hasn't been used in a while so thought any bacteria will have died? Should I try to sterilise what's possible to sterilise and use it? Or stick to the manual pump I have when I need it?

I just used to put mine in boiling water (all the bits, not the actual electric part obviously!) - but you can buy the extra bits (tubes, filter etc.) on Medela website, not too expensive so might just give you peace of mind :) x

Oh thanks! will explore that option - not very familiar with which bits are needed so need to do some research. I also heard that because of it being an open pump you shouldn't reuse it after someone used it so I'm wondering if the replacements come with all the bits that can gather mould / bacteria? Or just some?

boiling sounds like an idea too. I also have the sterilising bags from medela and a steriliser so could try those out!
