Bump or bloat?

Just over 5 weeks pregnant with 2nd child. Is it normal to have a bump this early with your 2nd or will it just be bloat? I'm struggling to fit into my work trousers and having to get some maternity jeans for work, just for comfort more than anything, I feel more far along than I am. Thanks for any thoughts in advance.

I was the same, although this is my first baby.

From about 5 weeks I felt bloated and wondered whether it was a bump. My stomach was soft, quite squishy and could be breathed in though, which sort of suggested it was fluid-based rather than a baby bump.

It went away after a few weeks, so I looked like I did pre-pregnancy.

I’m 13 weeks tomorrow and my stomach is definitely changing again, although this time it’s much firmer and definitely can’t be breathed in. I think this is the official bump formation now.

Your baby is about the size of a grain of rice at the moment, so I’d imagine it’s all fluid and extra blood rather than a “real” bump.

I think definitely have some maternity clothes at hand as you’ll need them in later weeks anyway.

It's not bump that early, it's bloat.

I was the same in both pregnancies. Probs bloat but it’s bloat as a consequence of pregnancy so what difference does it make really?

Ah congratulations. I am about 10 weeks with my 2nd and I’m so bloated it’s embarrassing! What I have done is buy some leggings in a size up and some other trousers with an elasticated waist. Jeans feel horrendous by the end of the day! When I go to bed I honestly look about 6 months pregnant - no sign of an actual hard bump though of course. I have been eating a lot more carbs and drinking a lot more water, but I’m pretty sure it’s mostly due to being pregnant. Fun isn’t it?!

It's always bloat if you're getting plump in the 1st trimester. A combination of water retention and sliding of the digestive system cause it. Get clothes a size larger or with stretchy waistbands for comfort until it settles, bump will emerge in the 2nd trimester or not until the 3rd for some.

Sliding... slowing must have missed something and auto correct buggered me

Definitely bloat. Baby is only about the size of a blueberry right now x
