Private scan worries!

Hey!

I had a private early scan yesterday 11w 6d. After a miscarriage last year at 9 weeks I just wanted some reassurance. I had already saw the baby at 8w 4d but you know what like just wanted to see baby and my nhs scan isn’t for a few weeks.

The baby was moving about a lot and heart rate was 162. During the scan he asked me if I was going to get the Down syndrome screening which I said most likely but will see what happens at the 12 week scan and what they say.

At the end of the scan he said I think you need further investigations. Everything went in a bit of a whirl wind, I got myself in a state and I’ve ended up with a scan being booked at the hospital today for 3pm.

I’m not 100% sure what the scanner is suggesting it wrong but here at what are on the notes....
NB ?
Cystic mass cranial region ?
Cranial defect ?
All had question marks at the end. So obv I’ve googled all these and wow the loaf is endless what it could be. Just praying he’s wrong and my baby is fine.

I’m so worried and just wanted to see if anyone had any advice. I had an empty bladder so the picture wasn’t clear he said.

Oh wow!! Have no experience of a private scan picking up abnomalies but i did have a nhs scan at 11+6 and the sonographer struggled to get the right measurements as he was right on the cusp of being to early. I also had a full bladder.

Don't google xx

Oh I’ve googled like mad, sure you can imagine what the worry has been like. It’s came up saying maybe the skull hasn’t devolved correct, Down’s syndrome, so many things my brain is actually fried!!

I just want to go today and then say his pictures weren’t clear and baby is just still a bit too early but all is fine. Not slept a wink all night.

Thanks for replying xx

You poor thing. That sounds so stressful. It’s good that you are getting seen quickly and hopefully they can put your mind at rest Flowers

I don’t have any experience to share, I’m sending a hug and hoping you get good news x

How did your scan go op?

TakeYourFinalPosition · 31/05/2021 16:29

Best of luck, OP, I hope that everything is okay Flowers

Hey!

So the private scanner got a few things wrong. Baby was perfectly fine size wise, Baby nasal bone was there and perfectly visible, Baby skull is complete formed correct so all these were unnecessary worries but hey I’m just glad baby seems ok.

But baby has a sac of fluid behind it’s head. The nuchal translucency fluid is 3.1 which they said is normal. I’ve decided to go for the CVS test this Thursday to rule out any chromosome issues with baby. They have said the sac of fluid could go away in time but best to check.

I’m feeling better but still worried xx

I'm glad that things are looking more positive! Best of luck with the further tests x

Glad that the private scanner was wrong about the initial concerns. Good luck for the tests, let us know how you get on.
