Folic Acid - how much/what type?

So, I have two different types of pregnancy multivitamins. One bottle says 800ug folate but breaks it down into 400ug folic acid and 400ug metafolin. These supplements have fewer vitamins in them, i.e. no Vitamin D. But the other bottle of supplements only says 400ug folic acid, but it includes lots of other vitamins.

What's the right one to take? Is the metafolin important?

You need .4mg of folic acid if your weight is normal range. Metafolin is good to take to. You need to be taking a vitamin d supplement also. You could take the pregnancy multivitamin and the folic acid together and it would be absolutely fine.

If your BMI is near or over 30, you need to be taking 5mg of folic acid.
