Possibly Big Baby? Worried!

So I had a scan at 20 weeks, which showed he had an abdominal circumference over the 97th centile. They said this will likely reduce as its still very early.

I then has a growth scan a few days back at 31 weeks and they said he's on the higher centiles for most measurements, including his weight which is 5 pounds. But his abdominal circumference again is over the 97th centile Sad

They have booked a gestational diabetes test next Friday, then a scan at 35 weeks to review his size, abdominal circumference and where to go from there.

If I did have gestational diabetes would they induce early or do an earlier C section? If I don't have gestational diabetes, but his measurements are still large (especially on his tummy), will that result in the same possibilities? My midwife said they can induce early sometimes but I feel no one has properly informed me what to expect Sad

I'm just very worried about giving birth to him if he's large in case of complications such as shoulder dystocia. I just feel a bit in limbo at the moment as I'm not sure what possible options there are!

Any advice, experience?

Anxious new mummy!

Hi op, I'm going through similar!

Now 36 weeks had a scan yesterday which showed baby on the 97th+ percentile and already weighing 7lb 14oz!

I have been given a diabetic kit to test glucose levels 4 times a day, returning in a week to discuss. I had the gtt test at 28 weeks and was negative.

I'm booked in for a section at 39+6 but may have to be brought forward a week if she keeps growing at this rate!

Have you spoke to a consultant about a vaginal v c section? It's not too late, I got my section request granted just 2 weeks ago.

Sorry I haven't much advice, just wanted to let you know Im in a similar situation, not sure when they want this baby out!

Try not to worry too much. It is daunting when you are expecting a little whopper but big babies are not always as hard to birth as you expect.

I've been there. Our son was measuring
4 weeks ahead on growth scans from 28wk onwards. They said they wouldn't induce until 2 weeks overdue and never mentioned elcs at all. I went in to labour naturally at 39+6 but he didn't arrive until 40+5 after a lot of nagging for my waters breaking when stuck at 5cm for over a day. I was very worried I'd need interventions but once waters were broken he was born 2hrs 19 mins later with just 14 mins pushing. His shoulders did get a bit stuck so they gave me 2 episiotomy cuts to stop tearing. He was 10lb 12oz, he had meconium in his waters so had to be monitored but was otherwise fine. Stayed well above average on growth as he got older too.

Oh and I didn't have GD, they tested me twice with him. Our other babies born after him have all been above average too.

Hi OP, I'm in a similar situation - almost 34 weeks and baby above 95th centile. They have discussed induction between 38 and 38+6 weeks with me, but until yesterday he was breech so was getting very worried about being forced into a c section which I desperately don't want. Growth scan yesterday showed him finally head down though 🤞🤞🤞

Meant to add, I've been tested twice for GD and am clear, plus all his measurements are large but in proportion so they've just said that he is 'constitutionally large'. He clearly takes after me as I was a 10lb 5oz baby! They told me that if I had had GD they would have induced by 38 weeks though.

I had the same experience as you. No diabetes, gave birth to ds just under 10 lb. No problems what so ever, in fact a far easier birth than dc1 who was early and little!
