Lightning crotch??

Hi, I'm 11+ 4 and at about 10 weeks I first experienced a sharp and stabbing pain from my abdomen down to the bottom of my pubic bone/crotch. It happened on and off for about 4 days and then went away. Tonight it returned from nowhere and took my breath away. The stabbing pain only lasts a few seconds but then strikes a gain in the same place a little later. I had an early scan at 6 weeks because of some spotting and they said all looked well then.
Anyone else have a similar experience in their first trimester?
Thanks in advance

My midwife referred to them as ‘Fanny daggers’ - I can’t remember if it was first trimester but I definitely had phases in my pregnancy of shooting pains, though mine were from my vulva up my vagina.

Fanny daggers! They are bloody awful! (I mean on the plus side, they are short lived/gone before you know it!)

FTEngineerM · 27/05/2021 20:44

I think I had these all the way through last time, not once this time. 😟 maybe it’s all still stretched and saggy 😂.

Come to think of it.. wish I had fanny daggers.

PineappleCakes · 27/05/2021 20:49

SPD? Mine started gradually until it was constant and walking & moving became unbearable.

I'm pretty sure this is what I'm having, 20 weeks on Saturday, but it's more the same place by where I pee? Bit tmi, not every day is just a few minutes every now and then it's so weird 😂 I googled it and it did say lightening crotch 😂

Thank you - I appreciate knowing I'm not alone. I did think I had a UTI and dip test showed uti signs but the urinalysis came back negative.

😖 the struggle is real - and fanny daggers is much better name than lightning crotch

Any chance you’re constipated? Mine seem to really flare up when I’ve not been regular Blush

Butternutsqoosh · 27/05/2021 21:35

When I had them they were known on here (16years ago!) as KNUFs - knitting needles up fanjo - bloody awful, and actually I got a couple the other day which reminded me of them!!

It does seem worse when I feel bloated too so maybe this is a trigger

Grin mine is more like knitting needles down Fanjo but this still works

Lol I recognised the description. But yes the are known as knitting needle pains here. Mine were to do with SPD but I have hypermobility which made it worse

MissZMR · 27/05/2021 22:00

I don't have any other symptoms of SPD at the moment but will keep an eye. It's just worrying when a pain stops
You in your tracks and you have no way of knowing whether it's normal!

It was my midwife who told me I was experiencing lightning crotch when I explained the pains I was getting (I didn’t have a clue what she was going on about). I used to live in fear of it striking when I was out and about (which it did). My midwife said that no one knows for sure what causes it but it’s believed to be changes in the cervix. Agree with pp that it was no where near as bad the second time around.
