Needle/sharp pain in boob?!?

I’m 23 weeks pregnant and aside from slight breast tenderness in the first few weeks, I’ve barely had a single pregnancy symptom.

However yesterday and today I have felt a very sharp, needle like pain that shoots through my left boob.

Only my left boob. I haven’t noticed it in my right one yet. It’s like someone poking a needle through it, right behind the nipple area. It’s painful enough to make me need to grab my boob and try to rub it better, but no matter where I rub it, I can’t seem to relieve it.

Is this something to worry about or something I should contact my GP about? I don’t see a midwife again for another 2 weeks.

I have had a good feel and can’t feel any unusual lumps in or around my breasts.

Most stuff I can find online talks about the breast pain you might get in the first few weeks, but this isn’t a muscle pain, or tenderness, it’s a very sudden, sharp pain, that I can only describe as a needle pain. Not tingly like pins and needles, literally like someone is poking me with a needle!

Hi, did you ever find out what this was?

I am 21 weeks pregnant and have just started getting sharp nipple pain in my left breast this evening. Usually made worse if I take a deep breath in. Just comes and goes but is so stingy and feels like a pin being shoved in the nipple!

I'm concerned because my breast is already red and has edema with skin thickening and I was recently at the breast clinic and had an ultrasound to rule out inflammatory breast cancer. Now I have this strange pain and I'm freaked out :(

Definitely get this checked just in case. I haven't had this pain in pregnancy but I have had it when breastfeeding, usually the opposite side to feeding on so I put it down to that but it hasn't happened often.

I've had this (but not in pregnancy). I ended up getting referred to the breast clinic and having an ultrasound. The ultrasound was fine and they couldn't see anything. The consultant said it was either non-cyclical mastalgia (basically breast pain but without a cause) or costochondritis which is actually pain in the chest wall.

I would definitely contact your GP and push to be referred if they're reticent because it can be really anxiety-inducing but breast pain on it's own is usually nothing to worry about.
