Cyclogest/Progesterone shortage

Hi, have folks heard of a national cyclogest/progesterone shortage? I’m 3+6 have a prescription for it due to previous miscarriages but can’t track down any. Any leads anyone? I am on Reading but will travel if needed.

Hi I've not heard anything I managed to get my cyclogest and predisnone and clexane ready for when I get my positive x

tinkerbell999 · 26/05/2021 17:15

I'm in Nottinghamshire though x

I got a 2 week prescription for cyclogest last week. The only pharmacy which had it had only one box (15) in and gave me an “owing slip” last week but now can’t get it in. I run out Friday. I have rung around found one reading pharmacy that has just one box again. I will inquire about availability of utrogestan pessaries instead as it seems from some other forums some people are being given this instead...

Our fertility clinic is closed on Thursdays so the whole situation is a complete nightmare.

If I were you I’d check you have enough in to continue for a good few weeks if possible. Glad you have it all ready though!!

Oh what a nightmare that is 🙄 not good then you strarted treatment .. it did not work for me last time so hoping this time it does as I've had so many losses now :( awful Isent it enough without panicking about medication .. I'm assuming you tried Asda's Tesco's etc never had a problem so far and been getting them couple of months x

willithappen · 26/05/2021 17:47

I was very lucky and managed to get a supply to take me to 12 weeks. My clinic had a shortage but my local chemist was able to get them in. Try some of the smaller places as they may have different suppliers.

I'm 'out in the sticks' so I think that's why I was able to get as it wasn't as popular as the city

MintGreenLife · 26/05/2021 17:57

A few months ago there was a shortage of the 400mg, so I was given double the 200mg. Could this be an option? Or is there basically just not any at all anywhere?

mowglika · 26/05/2021 18:02

call all your local small chemists they might have stock and people don’t always think to go there for their fertility meds. I’ve been piecing my cyclogest prescriptions together from Asda Tesco and local chemists

DoctorBambino · 26/05/2021 18:05

I've just had ivf and am on utrogestan as there is no cyclones available. Could you see if you can get another option?

daisyfrau · 26/05/2021 18:17

Thanks all! Have tried the big chains and asda not tried tesco will ring them. I have been ringing smaller places which is where I found the two separate boxes but many of them don’t keep in stock.

I’m so sorry for your losses. I don’t know your stories but I know something of that kind of loss, as I have had 4 in a row now. But we are blessed to have a daughter who is 6 now. She is absolutely desperate for a sibling so it doesn’t make things easier for us.

I am trying not to panic this time around but also just enjoy the days I have the pregnancy even if I later miscarry. It’s in God’s hands. I will ask the fertility clinic to sort out a script for up to 12 weeks if they agree. I may need to switch to utrogestan - I just need to check a pharmacy can supply it up to 12 weeks. I haven’t made it to 12 weeks since my daughter so we’ll see, but hopefully I can just keep the leftovers for next time (fingers crossed) if it happens again.

Thanks for all your help everyone

Hi OP just created an account to post on here as I have at least two spare boxes of cyclogest I could send to you? DM me if interested :)

LondonladyTTC · 26/05/2021 20:25

Hello, I get mine from pharmasure and it is sent out to me via post when my fertility clinic prescribes it- maybe worth ringing them and seeing if you could send over your prescription.

daisyfrau · 26/05/2021 20:37

Thanks all for these tips. I have urgently requested online a new prescription from GP which should hopefully be processed tomorrow so I can pick up the week’s supply I found and buy me some time to sort out a new plan/medication with the fertility clinic when they reopen on Friday.

(I will ring Pharmasure tomorrow to check also)

I’m sure you’ve probably already tried this but have you checked your local hospital?

I got mine from my hospital pharmacy, they seem to always be well stocked (this was about 2 months ago now)

Hope you manage to get some xx

daisyfrau · 27/05/2021 02:32

Unfortunately hospital pharmacy only does internal hospital/clinic prescriptions not the green ones. Still I will ask Fertility clinic if this is an option in some way...

Hi @daisyfrau did you manage to get a further supply? I've been prescribed progesterone and struggling to get hold of any from pharmacy at the moment. They said the last four orders haven't come in!

Aranciata · 14/06/2021 18:34

There is a national shortage of Cyclogest.
I got Utrogestan prescribed by my fertility clinic and supplied by Fertility2U.

Hope you can track some down soon @decafforme
Have you got enough to last a few days while you wait?

decafforme · 17/06/2021 06:33

Thanks @Aranciata my cyclogest finishes Friday and I've just been prescribed lutigest for 3 weeks. Never taken anything but cyclogest a bit nervous to chop and change but glad to be getting progesterone!!
