Could I be pregnant so soon after miscarriage?

Hi all, I am new to this site but was hoping to get some advice please. I recently had a natural miscarriage at 11+6 weeks on the 4th May this month. Bleeding stopped after a week and I continued to test until I got a negative pregnancy test 2 weeks later. I was keen to start trying as soon as possible so started testing for ovulation 11 days post miscarriage (15th May) and have yet to get a positive which was expected however I have been having some pregnancy symptoms and took a test today (22 days post miscarriage) and have a very very faint positive. Is it possible that I could be pregnant again and ovulated before I started testing or could I still have HCG in my system despite having a negative test a week ago? Not sure what to think so any advice would be great. Thank you!

Hello Sunflower, I don't know if this will help or not, but I recently went through the same thing.

  • I was about 5.5 weeks, so not as far along as you.
  • Started to bleed and had MC confirmed on 19th March. This lasted a week.
  • I didn't know when to expect my period, and I've never tested for ovulation, but I did a PG test on 3rd May and that was positive (Clearblue said 3+ weeks, so I guess a strong positive).
  • I don't know when I conceived, but I had an implantation bleed that began on 14th April so I'm guessing I ovulated ~2 weeks after my miscarriage bleed began, and conceived roughly around the 4th April?
  • This fits with my first scan date, which is 12.5 weeks later (16th June)
  • This would put the gap between the start of MC and the new conception at around 17 days... so I guess if you previously had a negative test and are now 22 days post MC, you could be pregnant again and get a very faint positive! Especially if you ovulated sooner than you thought.

Good luck and I hope you are pregnant :) (and thanks, writing that down has actually really helped me!)

Hi @WowStarsWow, thanks a lot for sharing your experience it’s really helpful to know that it’s not impossible.
I’m not sure what to think and don’t want to get my hopes up just yet. I’ll test again in a few days and go from there.
Congratulations and good luck with the pregnancy, that is lovely news!😊😊

Sorry for your loss Flowers
This happened to me but my natural MC was much earlier than yours. I phoned my local EPU (early pregnant unit) and was in the same day for bloods, then again 48 hours later for more bloods, to see if the HCG was doubling then they could confirm whether it was the old or new pregnancy. I tested over that time frame as well and my tests got darker so before I had the results from the blood test I sort of knew it was a new pregnancy (well, had my fingers crossed!)

See if you can phone EPU and explain, and get bloods. HTH!

I have just been in a very similar situation, even was doing lots of OPKs post miscarriage and didn’t get my peak but did get other signs of ovulation at that point, 8 days later my OPKs were still not positive, I had lots of symptoms and I got a vfl on a FRER, it progressed but not by much and ended up a chemical. I was so surprised that I had got pregnant again so quickly, even though unfortunately it didn’t progress, but if I hadn’t recognised the symptoms I wouldn’t have tested and then never knew as my period came bang on time. I would think you are pregnant again, fingers crossed!!

Thanks a lot for all of your answers-definitely a big help! Sorry to hear about your losses @catinthehat12. Wishing you luck for next time ❤️ I think if I get a stronger positive tomorrow I will contact EPU and hopefully get bloods to figure out what’s going on. Fingers crossed It’s good news 🤞🏼
