Possible to jump the queue at vaccination center ?

Hello, please advise me.

I am 32 weeks pregnant and due to take my COVID vaccine on next week Friday morning. My sister who took the vaccine on Thursday afternoon said there were approx 30 people standing in-front of her outside before entering the building, and waited around 30-40 mins. I am going to the same vaccine center, is it possible for pregnant women to jump the queue?

Why ?

Amillionnc · 23/05/2021 11:35

Why do you want to jump the queue?

kitkatsky · 23/05/2021 11:35

Why?

If you have mobility issues and struggling to stand for long periods then it’s worth an ask.
If it’s just not skip the wait then no.

Alternista · 23/05/2021 11:37

I don’t think you can or should expect it tbh. But wear whatever makes you look most pregnant and stand with your hand on your back and hope someone takes pity on you?

plixy · 23/05/2021 11:39

My local centre has wheelchairs for people who can't stand for long. But I don't think skipping the queue would be fair- we had very elderly people waiting their turn without complaint.
Unless you have severe medical issues affecting you then unfortunately you will have to wait like everyone else.

Thisisjaaam · 23/05/2021 11:39

Why do you want to skip the queue?

UhtredRagnarson · 23/05/2021 11:40

There was no queue when I went for line yesterday, but there were on other days according to the vaccine nurse. There may be no queue for you OP.

UhtredRagnarson · 23/05/2021 11:40

Mine*

Medievalist · 23/05/2021 11:41

It sounds extremely badly run. Do they not give timed slots? I've not had more than 1 person in front of me on either occasion. And neither has DH or MIL.

Is there a different centre you could try?

It seems reasonable to me that a heavily pregnant woman should not have to stand for 30-40 minutes but I'm not sure how you would go about jumping the queue. If you were behind me in any sort of queue I'd insist you went ahead. But as you can see from other responses, not everyone feels like that.

gamerchick · 23/05/2021 11:44

Camping chair?

I don't think people will be impressed with anyone jumping the queue.

Tk5787338 · 23/05/2021 11:45

I think it’s rare for there to be a queue; the first people to be vaccinated were vulnerable people with many of them not able to stand for a long time so I’m sure they’ve got measures in place for that

Gubanc · 23/05/2021 11:47

You may be if it's a walk-in and you're heavily pregnant.

Chloemol · 23/05/2021 11:50

Why.? Why should you be any different to anyone ? I have two disabled family members who have been, we didn’t jump the Q, but if you are concerned take a folding chair with you

Cinclus · 23/05/2021 11:51

At our vaccination centre, if you find it difficult to stand you would be offered a chair or a wheelchair. But as a PP said, there are lots of elderly people and people with mobility problems and they wait their turn so no, you probably wouldn't be able to jump the queue.
The only people who we try to get in and out quickly are those who are distressed because of severe needle phobia.
Sometimes there's a queue outside, sometimes there isn't. Once you're in the building, you wait sitting down and would be called in turn. I don't know how the appointments system works but patients are definitely not evenly spread through the day.

Smallbean27 · 23/05/2021 11:52

There are wheelchairs about. I went yesterday and was standing for a little while, started to feel faint there wasn't anyone around to ask for help. So I just grabbed the nearest chair sat on it and carried it with me until it was my turn.
Next time I will say at check in that I can't stand for long periods and see what they suggest.

OwlTwitterings · 23/05/2021 11:53

If you have a genuine need to jump the queue then look up your vaccination centre’s policy for disabled visitors. Many will have a separate area for wheelchair users or those with a disability to wait if needed. However, you may need to visit on a specific time and day for it.

Don’t forget millions of elderly people have managed to queue up (some in zimmerframes) for a long wait whilst the teething issues at the vaccination centres were sorted out.

Goodtohear · 23/05/2021 11:54

No at 32 weeks I was on my feet for 12 hour shifts.
I'm now physically disabled and part time wheelchair user I still managed to queue up.

IHaveBrilloHair · 23/05/2021 11:54

I have mobility issues so a nurse came out and did mine through the car window.

whatnow41 · 23/05/2021 11:54

I have mobility problems and can't stand up for very long. I used a wheelchair and waited my turn. I was actually seen much later than my turn because I was in a wheelchair and they kept missing me.

Thefamilybusiness · 23/05/2021 11:58

Unless you're not telling us about some massive mobility issue /illness yabu. Ask for a seat/take a camping chair if you'll struggle for some reason but the majority of women are still working at 32 weeks so I doubt you'd get much support for queue jumping.

Titofeline · 23/05/2021 12:08

This. Camping chair is an excellent solution
tonyunclejohnny · 23/05/2021 12:14

Queue jump because your 32 weeks pregnant 🙄, unless there is some huge back story missing then you are being very unreasonable and very demanding. I, like many other normal non princess women, worked 12 hours shifts on my feet until 38 weeks and I had SPD.

Why exact is it that you should jump the queue? Are you the first woman ever to carry a child?

Biscuit
Mousetown · 23/05/2021 12:51

You do realise most women who are 32 weeks pregnant are on their feet all day working? Unless you have mobility issues preventing you from standing I don’t see why you can’t stand in a queue.

Passionfruitpizza · 23/05/2021 13:02

I'd take a camping stool. I had to wait in a queue for over an hour for mine.
