Possible to jump the queue at vaccination center ?

Hello, please advise me.

I am 32 weeks pregnant and due to take my COVID vaccine on next week Friday morning. My sister who took the vaccine on Thursday afternoon said there were approx 30 people standing in-front of her outside before entering the building, and waited around 30-40 mins. I am going to the same vaccine center, is it possible for pregnant women to jump the queue?

Go into the centre, passed the queue, and ask if you can sit down inside to wait your turn. There was no probem at our centre when I had to do this. (I'm not pregnant, but have other health problems). If anyone says anything just ignore them. I doubt they will. Your life, health, pregnancy is absolutely nothing to do with anyone else.
Hold your head up high and smile sweetly.

alahsvsn · 23/05/2021 21:14

Queue at mine yesterday was about 5-10 mins maximum. I'm sure I could have sat on a seat for a bit if I had needed one/asked, they were all very helpful.

katienana · 23/05/2021 21:18

I had SPD I could not have stood for 30 minutes about 10 was my limit or I'd be crying with pain. You could take a camping chair.

lmao88 · 23/05/2021 21:40

I have placenta previa and haemorrhaged 4 times since 21 weeks, I am supposed to be on bed rest but concerned about possibly queuing for such a long period at the vaccine centre, so just asking if it's controversial to cut the queue or if you have seen other pregnant woman do so.

Curiosity101 · 23/05/2021 21:50

@lmao88 Based on your circumstance I wouldn't hesitate to go inside and ask if it looks like there's a long queue. Just let them know you're meant to be on bed rest and shouldn't be standing for long periods of time.

Wishing you all the best. I had a similar experience in my last pregnancy (Previa and multiple haemorrhages), do what you need to do to try and keep your little one on board Smile

Cinclus · 23/05/2021 21:59

OP if you give the vaccination centre a call in advance and explain, they might do you in your car. That happens at ours occasionally for people who really struggle with mobility.

LindaEllen · 23/05/2021 22:06

Take someone with you who can drive you there and either hold your place in the queue or take a folding chair for you to sit on.

FWIW the people who I know who've had it have never even waited.

LindaEllen · 23/05/2021 22:11

@Onceuponatime1818

I wonder if everyone feels the same then about standing 40 min on a train/bus etc?

What’s the point of the baby on board badges etc?

You don't think there's a difference between standing up on a moving vehicle that can stop suddenly and make you lose balance, and in a queue?
tiredanddangerous · 23/05/2021 22:16

If you are supposed to be on bed rest I wouldn't be going at all!

Floralnomad · 23/05/2021 22:33

Why didn’t you just put that in your original post @lmao88 ? Best thing is to call and see what they can do for you or speak to your GP .

Peaplant20 · 23/05/2021 22:34

It’s not just about suddenly stopping on a tube or bus, otherwise pregnant women would just be told to make sure they’re holding on.

Livpool · 23/05/2021 22:42

I have had both of my doses and know loads who have had theirs. I don't know anyone who has had to queue

lmao88 · 23/05/2021 22:47

@Floralnomad

Why didn’t you just put that in your original post *@lmao88* ? Best thing is to call and see what they can do for you or speak to your GP .
Because I just wanted to get a sense of views from people who have seen pregnant women queue jump at the vaccine centers and whether it is acceptable. It is not remotely possible to explain a hidden issue to every person in that queue, same here not sure why I need to explain myself.

Personally I would be indifferent to where a visibly pregnant woman or a disabled person would decide to jump the queue.

OP posts:
Nbahen · 23/05/2021 22:51

You don't need to explain to every person in the queue, just explain to one of the volunteers and they will sort it out for you. I think you're overthinking it OP. If someone walked past me in a queue with a volunteer showing them through I wouldn't think twice about it. Hope all goes well.

Floralnomad · 23/05/2021 22:57

@lmao88 you don’t need to explain to everyone in the queue but if you had said about your circumstances in your original post you would have got some more helpful suggestions . You may not object if someone queue jumps , others may feel differently. Ring them and find out what you are supposed to do if you can’t / shouldn’t be stood up for a long period .

I've got my jab this week. I'm 38 weeks (and massive), but it wouldn't even occur to me to think about jumping the queue..

KitchenWarrior · 24/05/2021 14:36

I fainted in the queue and they found me a chair but I still had to wait! I don't have an obvious bump yet.

Mumdiva99 · 24/05/2021 14:40

We had queue managers at the centre I went to - I'm sure if you had spoken to them they could have arranged for you to wait inside with a seat. (I also joined a queue- as the appointment was for straight after lunch and I think we had all been given the same time - but honestly once they opened the doors it moved really quickly and I wasn't waiting any more than 5 minutes.)

mamatocaptainchaos · 24/05/2021 14:41

Bloody hell!! The comments on here are absolutely rude!!

I would definitely ask given your circumstances.

I am 27 weeks pregnant, bed rest. So yes, if there was a queue for even longer than 20 minutes I would need to ask for at least a chair/wheelchair!

People are so bloody judgemental!!!

IHaveBrilloHair · 24/05/2021 15:11

Aren't they just.
I wasn't even questioned.
As you drive in at my local center, they stop you just to check you do have an appointment, then I was asked if I had mobility issues, and when I said yes, I was asked if I'd prefer to be jabbed in my car, I was then pointed to a disabled space, and that was that, for both jabs.
FWIW, I look completely, "normal", still no judgement or further questions asked.

When I took Dd, I answered no to the mobility question, and was told to just park anywhere and she was to enter through X door and would be about 10 minutes.

It's not even jumping the queue, its having different circumstances.

IHaveBrilloHair · 24/05/2021 15:19

BTW, I have a blue badge so in theory can always park in the disabled spaces, but didn't when I took Dd as I wasn't getting out of the car.

raspberryjamlove · 24/05/2021 15:29

Hi I am 38 weeks pregnant and I arrived to a line nearly an hour long, crazy and I was 5 mins early! As I drove up there was a guy directing cars to park and he saw I was pregnant and suggested I could come later when it was quieter. That wasn't an option so I said I would just the line. Once I parked he came over and told me to follow him and he took me to the front. I was very grateful I will be honest!

motogogo · 24/05/2021 15:39

I'm in agony if I stand still for more than 23 mins, I don't look disabled. I will not be jumping the queue

SecretWitch · 24/05/2021 15:46

I would have no issue with a visibly pregnant woman or disabled person given the opportunity to jump ahead. Good luck, op

UserEleventyNine · 24/05/2021 15:53

....queue jump over old people

How many 'old people' are currently being vaccinated in the UK? They are on to people in their 30s!

OP, if you're still reading, I'd advise you to speak to a marshal on arrival. If I saw a heavily pregnant woman - or anyone else for that matter - being ushered to the head of the queue, I wouldn't think anything of it, other than to suppose there must be a reason for it that was none of my business. Other people in the queue won't be held up for more than a couple of minutes if you go ahead of them.
