TMI - Itching during pregnancy

I'll apologise in advance for TMI but I'm really hoping I'm not the only one experiencing this.

Since becoming pregnant I have times where my labia are so itchy it's driving me crazy. I'll be fine for a couple of days, then it'll start out of nowhere, maybe last a day, go away, then start again a couple of days later.

It feels likes it's the outside of my labia, so the part rubbing against my underwear. It really doesn't feel like thrush because of where it is, and the fact it comes and goes.

At night I'm not wearing underwear, just loose pyjama bottoms, but last night I couldn't get to sleep because of the itching.

This is my 2nd pregnancy, but first time having this problem.

Please tell me I'm not the only one, and any suggestions to help!

I had this too and even though it wasn't thrush because it would come and go etc.. canasten thrush cream still helped mildly

Was also going to suggest canestan cream, could just be hormones and sensitive skin etc. Have you changed washing tabs or anything?

Nichola2310 · 26/05/2021 12:24

No haven't changed any washing products. I tried canestan yesterday and it was a great help when I could lie down and stay still. However once I'm moving around it ends up on my panty liner and is no help.

An ice pack actually helped. Ive bought vagasil to try as well.

I get this with my type 2 diabetes. The nurse told me it was thrush but it isn't Sad

Nichola2310 · 26/05/2021 14:40

@ohsuzannah thrush definitely feels more internal than this, and also more constant. Yesterday morning as soon as I woke I knew I was in for a nightmare day, this morning I felt fine.

My friend had this and apparently it was linked to varicose veins 'down below'. Perhaps speak to your midwife about it or GP.

@MaMaD1990 I've just googled and it sounds like that's possibly it 😭 I'm only 17 weeks!

Ohh dear! Go and see your GP, I can't remember if they prescribed my friend any sort of cream or not...sorry if it is that, and I hope it goes away!

Leafblower14 · 27/05/2021 10:44

OH MY GOSH,i have this and couldnt for the life of me work out what it was, thrush and uti was ruled out but it comes and goes, it was really bad at the beginning of pregnancy but is better now at 24 weeks, as pp says canesten cream helped slightly

Nichola2310 · 27/05/2021 11:44

@Leafblower14 I'm so glad to hear it's not just me! I haven't had any itching today (yet) but I feel like I've been kicked in the crotch. The whole area is throbbing. Sitting with my feet up with an ice pack is my preferred position to be in. Thankfully I'm working from home!!
