Second vaccine in first trimester?

I had my first vaccine in March with no side affects. My second is booked for Monday. I’ve found out today I’m 1-2 weeks pregnant which is amazing after having to go through infertility treatment this past year.

I’m all for being vaccinated but I’m nervous about it being first trimester. I’m not sure why, I guess because the risk is so high of MC regardless and I don’t want to risk getting a fever.

That being said, I had my vaccine in March because I’m high risk so if I catch COVID I will be very poorly. Has anyone had their vaccine early on and all been fine or are in a similar position to myself?

Hi @Megzj91. Congrats on your pregnancy - great news! I’m in a similar position. I was due my second when I was 5/6 weeks pregnant. I had my first in Jan as am considered considerable extremely vulnerable. I postponed the second as wanted to wait to after the first trimester - if all goes well at the scan I will re-book. I was just wary about doing it in the first trimester but know people have. I was happy enough that the one dose would give me decent immunity in the meantime

Hi @AutumnHoping I had AstraZeneca which has added the panic (even though there is no link to clots second time!) Did you have the same and were they happy to postpone?

Oh ok - a bit more complicated then. Though they do say obv if you had no issues with the first it’s fine and at that time they didn’t give two different ones. I just dealt with the vaccination centre directly - they were unable to re-book me in advance as it was too far away but I spoke to them a few days back and they said I can just phone when I’m ready and they will book me back in - they could have did it the next day if I wanted. I had the Pfizer initially. I’ve maybe been lucky in that the vaccination centre have been so good and easy to deal with. My GP thought the midwife may have to arrange the second one for me since I cancelled but thankfully seems straightforward. My GP are giving the Astra Zeneca so had said if that’s what my first one was they could have did it for me when I was ready (as opposed to the vaccination centre). Hopefully whatever you choose is straightforward and symptom free!

Thank you! I’m going to chat to the dr tomorrow and see what they say before I make my choice. Good luck with everything! X

I had my second dose at 5 weeks and was absolutely fine, I was Astra Zeneca too. I checked with my GP and he advised to go ahead as benefits outweigh any risks- and I actually felt better than I did after the first one… unlike my hubby who fainted after his first one last weekend, I had to wheel him out the vaccination centre! (More a reaction to getting a needle than the vaccine though, he was fine afterwards!) 🙈😂 he has been warned he better be planning on wheeling himself out after the second one as I’ll be 22 weeks 😂😂

Thank you so much @Dorkwillow, this has really put me at ease!!
